Mangalore: Speeding school bus kills girl

Mangalore, 05 October 2010: Aishwaraya (15), student of St Sebastian School, Thokkottu near here was killed, and Rajeevi, a pedestrian injured when a speeding school bus knocked them down at Chembugudde at Thokkottu under Ullal police station limits here on Tuesday. The bus belonging to Sneha Public School, driven by Mohiuddin of Pakkaladka that was carrying eight students, crashed in to the compound wall of a house before coming to rest.

 

Ullal police, who have registered a case of fatal accident on a complaint from Rajeevi said the incident took place around 8.15 am, when the bus after its first pick up of students was on its way to the school. The bus driver apparently lost control of the vehicle when it was travelling down hill, hit Aishwarya, and Rajeevi and went on to demolish part of the house compound. The front portion of the bus was completely damaged in the accident.

 

Aishwarya succumbed to injuries at a hospital in the city, where she was rushed for treatment. Police have arrested the bus driver. The Ullal PSI Nagaraj is investigating the incident. Police said the bus was relatively less crowded as the driver was on his usual routine to pick up students enroute the school. The locals told the police that the bus driver was driving fast and this could have led to him losing control over the vehicle.
