Mangalore, 06 June 2012: Mangalore city and the surrounding regions witnessed sharp decline in the temperature and some relief in the sweltering heat of the summer due to the arrival of the monsoon in time.
Since two days there had been good rainfall. It is apparent that people had not anticipated the monsoon to arrive so early. Hence, many commuters were not prepared for this early rain. Rainwear and umbrella sellers were seen busy selling their products as customers were keen to arm themselves to face the onslaught of the heavy rains.
Though the rains caused inconvenience to the pedestrians, the traffic on the road was more or less normal in the city area.
Though the sky was cloudy, there was no sign of heavy incessant rain. With the schools having started, school children were seen going to the schools some of them not properly equipped to protect themselves from the rains.
At some places, water logging could be seen on the roads, resembling small poodles causing inconvenience to the vehicles as well as pedestrians.
In spite of the initial inconvenience to the people due to the arrival of the monsoon just in time, most of the people in Mangalore city and around have heaved a sigh of relief from the unbearable heat of the summer. Everyone hopes that the monsoon will be normal and the agricultural activities will proceed normally and the people of the city who had been suffering from lack of proper water supply can look forward for normal water supply.

People of Mangalore must be happy and thank God for the badly required rains. It brought down the temperature and will bring relief to the farmers as they can go on with their work in the fields for a better crops. Of course there will be flooding, house and wall collapses and many other calamities as this is part of nature which we have to overcome. |
