Udupi, 05 June 2012: Udupi district reeling for want drinking water since a month had heavy rain showers on Sunday night and Monday bringing smiles on people’s faces. People who were suffering from severe shortage of water and also the crouching heat, had some relief with this rain. There has been good rain in the district in the last 24 hours. In the district average 8.20 mm rain has come, out of which in Udupi Taluk 5.40 mm, in Kundapura Taluk 6.20 mm and in Karkala Taluk a little more 8.20 mm rain has come. The rain which showered without wind, thunder and lightning, did not cause any damage or problems.

This time the people living in city depending on the tap water have suffered more than the people of rural areas who use well water. The Municipality has brought the water from the ponds of the Swarna river and supplied to the city residents. Jilla and Taluk Panchayaths have supplied water to rural areas wherever necessary through tankers. It was tough time for the officers and peoples representatives to meet the demands of people.

During this time the MLA had offered Siyala abhisheka to the lord for rains. Also two days earlier the Jilla Nagarika Samithi conducted cradling of tadpoles. Now the rain has come and seems the rainy season has begun.

I do agree with Charles D Mello. yes, water is our future or at least our future generation as it is said there will be wars fought for water. We yet to learn importance of Water and saving and storing water is very very important issue. If it is not now, it will be never in future. time is running out. Thanks Charles for your giving us and our community awakening call.. keep sharing your views which are very valuable to our community.

Residents at least now learn the importance of harvesting rain water and increasing ground water. It is not a rocket science. Try to hold the running water at least by a feet..and you will be the winners..!!???

Finally, the d-day came and what a respite from the unbearable heat. there is a saying " Bhagavanka gharme dher he, andhera khabi nahi ". We all know Udupi people suffered a lot due to very severe shortage of water and finally God has shown them the mercy and showered his blessing along with the rain. great pics, and it gives cool feeling... Thanks Snehalata for these lovely pictures of rain.. We feel at home though very far away from home..
