Rains drench Mangalore; Kolnad in Bantwal receives 102 mm

Mangalore, 17 Jun 2012: After two days of sunshine, the Dakshina Kannada District received heavy showers from Saturday night which continued even on Sunday.
Kolnad in Bantwal Taluk received maximum rain of 102 mm till 8.30 am on Sunday in the last 24 hours. Rainfall was widespread, heavy in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Kodagu districts.
There were several areas in Dakshina Kannada which received high intensity rain. As much as 66 mm of rain was recorded at Mangalore A hobli of Mangalore taluk at 5:50 am, which was followed by 70.5 mm rain at Mangalore B hobli at 6 am.High intensity rain of 50 mm per hour was also recorded between 7:30 am to 07:45 am at Sullia in Dakshina Kannada districtAS much as 64.5 mm rain was recorded at Panemangalore hobli in Bantwal taluk at 8 am and hiigh intensity rain of 58 mm/hr was recorded from 6 to 6:15 am again at Mangalore B hobli in Dakshina Kannada district.
Rainfall was widespread in Sullia which received 57mm and Bantwal (102mm); Belthangady (57); Mangalore (93.5) and Puttur received widespread rainfall of 70.5 mm till 8.30 am on Sunday.
Rainfall in other places of the district was as follows (in mm): Tannirapantha 57; Koila 58; Koyyuru 5; Yenmuru 56.50; Dharmasthala 39;Harihara Pallatadka 44.50; Kolnad 102; Ajjavara 57; Alletty 40.50; Savanuru 48.50;
Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centreauthorities c onditions were favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of Konkan, some more parts of interior Karnataka, Bay of Bengal during the next three days.
