Mumbai, June 30: To understand the historical and social background of any community, it is very important to get acquainted with the traditional songs of that community. Therefore, the younger generation should show interest in developing their interest in the folk literature of their community, said Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President Joachim Stany Alvares while addressing the gathering at the video wears workshop held in the premises of Milagres College, Kalyanpur on Sunday, June 29, in collaboration with Konkani Sahitya Kala Ani Sanghatan, Udupi District, and Catholic Sabha. The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy has been continuously encouraging the preservation and development of Konkani language, education, literature, art, folklore and heritage. He called on the Konkani community to take advantage of this by participating in such programs organized by the Academy.

The chief guest of the program, Dr. Vincent Alva, Principal of Milagres College, released the book of poetry collection ’Tujya Hasyam Khatir’ written by Dr. Plavia Castellino Manipal and said that due to the excessive pressures of globalization, today’s youth has not developed a sense of pride in their heritage and folk culture. This leads to many disasters. In this context, fathers, mothers, and guardians should continue to remember the heritage of their families while providing modern education to their children.

 

Another guest of the program, Fr. Pradeep Cardoza, spoke and said that as a result of Westernization, there have been many disastrous changes in the folklore and cultural programs among our people. Those who organize programs in their homes should pay more attention to these and bring the elders and the younger ones on the right path.

 

Mrs. Marceline Shera, President of Catholic Sabha Kalyanpur, who was the co-organizer of the program, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Plavia Castelino, President of Udupi District Literature, Art and Cultural Organization, proposed the vote of thanks. Ritesh D’Souza, Udyavara presented the program.

 

After the assembly program, a Vovio Verse workshop was held under the leadership of Mrs. Irene Rebello, Anil D’Cunha and Glennon D’Souza, in which training was given on Konkani traditional songs.

 

In the concluding program held in the afternoon, the trained trainees performed traditional songs. Walter Pinto, owner of Feather Communication, graced the program as the chief guest and distributed certificates to the trainees. Voyo Verse addressed the gathering by playing the gumat. The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy has been continuously encouraging the preservation and development of the Konkani language, education, literature, art, folklore and heritage. He called on the Konkani brothers to take advantage of this by participating in such programs organized by the Academy.
