Moodubelle, 06 June 2012: It is said that history repeats itself and also those who do not learn from history would commit the same mistakes. It seems that the Belle Grama Panchayat has learnt nothing from the past experience.  Since the last six years, during the first few heavy showers the roads of Moodubelle, especially the junction in front of the main gate of  St. Lawrence Church present the spectacle of a mini-lake.  As the heavy vehicles pass through the slush is splattered in all directions causing inconvenience to all around including school children and pedestrians. The shop-keepers around this junction also have to do business with customers who hesitate to vent5ure into their shops due to the fear of being splattered with muddy water when vehicles pass through the pool of dirty water.

Due to heavy rains on Monday, June 4, 2012 and in the morning of Tuesday, June 5, 2012 the entire area in front of the church was converted into a mess as water could not freely pass through the drainage as the drains were clogged as they were not cleaned so as to allow the rain water to pass through smoothly. As a result the rain water collected at the centre of the junction. It is said that one bike rider slipped due to the slush.

At around 11.30 am on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, a group of  volunteers led by Henry Alva, President of the Congress Local Committee assembled at the spot in order to find some solution to the problem and began the voluntary service by removing the obstacles from the drainage and making room for the rain water to flow smoothly. Mrs. Jacinta Aranha, president of the Belle Grama Panchayat, Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Douza, Zill Pancyat member,  A.G. D’Souza and Shivram Salian, members of the Belle Grama Panchayat, Preetham Alva, Secretary NSUI, Mumbai University, Gopal Shetty, former president of the Local Committee, Babanna Shetty, Prashant Poojary, Benedict Alva, Mrs. Benedict Castelino, Hithalmani, the PDO, Karna Shetty and President of the Belle Riksha Union were present at the spot.

Video

Leeladhar Kamath said that in spite of the problem being repeated every year, the Belle Grama Panchayt administration has not taken any step to solve this recurring problem. It is indeed the sorry state of affairs that  the panchayat has to be reminded every year of the problem. It is common sense that prior to the monsoon if the clogged drains are not cleaned the rain water during monsoon would flow on the road and cause inconvenience to the vehicles as well as the people. When the panchayt will wake up to the basic problems of the villagers and do something that would be appreciated by one and all…?

Rohith let me clarify I live in moodubelle I have got right to talk and you don't tell me what to talk and not. Everybody got their own rights. You said you live in Udupi then why u bothered about belle. If you want to talk with me come and meet in belle. You are welcome most and show your real identity. Don't act like coward.
Rohith, udupi Sat, June-9-2012, 9:56
@HEMPHIL- Do you really exist in the world? I dont think so. You must be some random BJP dog which only barks all the time for no reason. May be you are being paid for this too. I dont wanna argue with you. Barking dogs seldom bit and dogs tail cannot be straightened. Jai ho Hemphil.
Evans Christopher Sumitra, Udupi/New York, USA Fri, June-8-2012, 3:35
It is too late to point fingers at each other. I fully agree the Belle Gram Panchayat that they did not do anything since last six years to fix the roads even after the people complained But it is too late to do anything at this time as even if they do they will do a shoddy job and will not be of any use due to the heavy rains. Start putting petition after petition to the Panchayat as soon as the monsoon ends. Good pictures by Anil Alva and I can see the hardships faced by the shop keepers, the children and other pedestrians. It is an awful sight. It\ s a shame on part of the Belle Gram Panchayat for ignoring this vital issue of the people of Belle even though they are paying taxes. God Luck to Belle and hope this will not happen next year.
Alwyn, moodubelle Fri, June-8-2012, 3:16

To Mr.Lawrence Moodubelle : for your comment "if the panchayth president members are not concerned then why we are concerned ? ".Boss we all are concerned becasue moodubelle is ours may be you are not from this place. And you have written let panchayat president elected members fulfill their desires first ;i think either you dont knw anything or actinng like u know everything.Boss panchayath is smallest in terms of politics .I know its limitations ,president

@Anner and Karna shetty- Hi Folks. I am perfectly alright. Thanks for your concern. Some volunteers are needed to clean the mess. I request you both to do some good work for Belle as you live there. I can not come. Have a nice time. Karna is still ok. Is Anner a male?
Rohith, Udupi Thu, June-7-2012, 8:13
@Hemphil- I do not know how to address you. Guess you are ambiguous. You would really need some grammar classes and some more classes to learn the proper etiquitte of writing comments on a social website. Now yoy are saying that belle is better than Udupi. Then why do you talk bad about your people all the time. You are contradicting your statements and proving yourself wrong.
V.Lobo, Moodubelle Thu, June-7-2012, 4:41
Big mouth Hemphil Anner You people are not living in Moodubelle not paying any tax or revenue to the Panchayat or not listed in the voter id, ration card, then why are barking at Moodubelle Panchayat This problem comes every year If these shop keepers worried then before monsoon starts they should inform the panchayat with petition then we can blame anybody. Believe it or not these shop keepers throwing rubbish at right hand side of the church these people don t realise this place scared belongs to our church last two years back one of our church committee member mentioned to these people in response they rude at him and the church if our saint is there he will see you only these words he said it, very next day shop caught fire Have you heard any fire occurred at moodubelle shop i don t think so If i am wrong please correct me.If we all of us cooperate together everything should be solved.
Lawrenece, Moodubelle Thu, June-7-2012, 2:51
Please close this chapter as its repeats every year. When Panchayat president and its committee members are not at all concerned about it then why we will worry about this problem...? Let them to fulfill their desires first and then think about the poor people. Stop this photo session drama as you are very much concerned about this problem. Actually its a shame for the elected president and team of panchayat members.
HEMPHIL DUBAI, UDUPI Thu, June-7-2012, 4:56
MR.ROHIT UDUPI,B4 U COMENTING SOMEONE PLEASE CLEAN UR HOUSE FIRST THEN U FINGER ON OTHERS,PLEASE VISIT UDUPI FISH MARKET AN SOME POPULAR PLACES THEN U WIL REALIZE MOODUBELLE S MUCH BETER THEN UDUPI....WHEN CONGRESS WAS RULING IN UDUPI UNDER THE GREAT OSCAR FERNANDIES EVEN HE WAS NOT CAPABLE TO REPAIR THE INFRONT OF HIS HOUSE......THAT WAS BIGEST SHAME AN WITNESS FOR YOUR KIND INFORMATION...MAY BE WERE NOT BORN IN THAT TIME ...JAI HO ROHIT UDUPI.....
ronald, Moodubelle Thu, June-7-2012, 1:28
rightly said by some reader panchayath official will not use their own money to do this job unless they get funds from higher authorities (taluk or district). One more thing i want to mention specially here that atleast this panchayath members are always there in moodubelle and any common can go to them and speak to them ,they will be there to listen to your problems. But our previous panchayath members are hardly to be seen in belle and to speak to them you should have taken appointment and speaking very rude. Its like once they got elected common man is nothing for them.In this case i really appreciate this panchayath and this work and other issues we all belle public requesting taluk panchayath Mr.Hebbar to release some fund to your home town so that panchayath can do some useful works.I hope mr.hebbar will take this matter seriously and work hand in hand with our panchayath without any partiality inspite of whichvr party to the development of moodubelle.
Anner, Belle Thu, June-7-2012, 1:20

Anil, Dubai Thu, June-7-2012, 12:35
as some readers have pointed out this has become an annual affair in rainy season. As the pictures show the drains are blocked completely. Where the water will go? Where the water will go which is coming out from the church compound? It has to accumulate on the road, has no other way to go out. It is a major failure in planning. Elected Leaders, please try to solve this problem permanently by doing proper drainage systems.
rohith, udupi Wed, June-6-2012, 11:25
Hi |Vincy. It is just a small video about what the village people have to say about what has happened. It is not going to be sent for any movie audition or something. Have patience. Think about what you have done for the village. Except roaming and chit chatting, what else do you do. This is it. Good job. You are just showing your hatred feeling towards the panchayath becuase inspite of being.
rohith, udupi Wed, June-6-2012, 11:14
It easy to blame people for what has happened. Civilians do not think logically. All are not corrupt. Have you any idea how much the previous ruling party (BJP) have earned. They were corrupt. Bought vehilces, lands, cars etc. Nobody knows about it. We have to think about the funds available in the panchayath. You civilians do not pay the tax properly and expect gram panchayath to do everything for you. You elected them to do good work. They try to do it. You didnot elect them to use their own money for the betterment of the village. Higher authorities are ruled by BJP. Do you think congress gets enough fund from them. Not as equal as the funds available to BJP. We as civilians have to do our part first. Its not the problem created by rain or panchayath. It is created by village people. If the waste disposal is followed properly by especially the shop owners, it will not cause much problem in the future. That short guy shop owner is talking seriously about it. The major reason for the improper drainage is his place where there is so much of stacked mud which eventually due to rain runs down and blocks the drainage.
Irene Lobo, Moodubelle Wed, June-6-2012, 3:24
People should know they are right when they elect leaders, whether they are doing their job properly.Unless they ask questions about the tax money and Government fund whether used for right cause. Basic facility like roads so bad in Moodubelle and infact all over the Mangalore.People love to buy new car but nobody wants improve roads and safety facilities.Everyone complains about the roads, and ploitical parties years and years, but none has the time to do something about it.We know last few years our village is developed, people have good houses, improved standard of life.Still basic facility like roads, pollution control, drainage facilities are very bad and looks like no one thinking about it.Infact it is all over the India. We are far behind another 100yrs. comparing to other developed countries. Moral of the story is start from small, atleast from your community. Educate people, specially childrens, think broader and plan how we can solve these problems ,rather blaming each other. If Pnachayat is not done anything about it, you are also equaly responsible. Attend the gram panchyat meetings, discuss the problems, plan solutions and monitor the progress. As a tax payer you have all the right.
sharon, Moodubelle/Bangalore Wed, June-6-2012, 2:42
Dear All, This is not a time to blame this panchayat only as told by Mr.Nelson Udupi .This panchayat finished 1 n half year ,before this also other parties ruled our panchayath,so nobody actually took any interest in this job.So blaming this panchayath only is not a solution. Now atlest bellevision is there to raise our voice and its popular now .In the past when others ruling panchayath belle vision was not so famous and nobody was publically targetting them so its like they think they r safe.We readers have to understad the fact that what is the root cause of this problem. And we can see some shop keepers raising their voice in Video should also take the blame for throwing all coconut shells and other thrash in this manholes ,due to this drainage syatem getting blocked. They shoud keep a garbage bin outside their shop and help in keeping it clean.Just balming the panchayth in every thing is not a solution .Even local panchayath is not getting any funds since its higher taluk and jilla panchayath ruled by BJP so they act as step parents.Panchayath also having some limitations .Before blaming or protesting we should understand these things properly and do rather not just every1 doing .
Jemmy, Moodubelle / Doha Wed, June-6-2012, 1:33
It shows the quality of our beloved elected leaders as they could not solve this problem for many years now. Time has come to donate one Bag of cement from each familes who can afford to bear the cost, so that this road can be concertize permanently, and then the credit of this work can be taken by these useless elected candidates.what a shameful scenery which we are observing every year ..?
Abraham Vincent Fernandes, Moodubelle/Hyderabad Wed, June-6-2012, 9:59
The problem of mudwater accumulation is since the partial concretisation of the main road. Elevation of the concrete road was ignored to match the existing asphalt road during construction. There is no proper manhole to drain out water at the church junction. Nice to see our representatives holding crowbars to clear up drainages after spending lot of money to the labourers. Thanks to bellevision and Mr. Anil Alva for "History Repeats"
Baptist Sequeira, Moodubelle Wed, June-6-2012, 9:35
You have said it right Mr. Vincent Shirva. In a Democracy if the pillar of democracy a common citizen is not active, complete democracy will be a failure. That is why we will have same useless leaders, and useless ourselves who still pay tax and get our job done by paying bribe. Particularly we Catholics say " Alwyn Mastre yireg dayegye?, Leeladhara yireg dayegye, Vincy yireg dayegye" and still travel in the same mud like swines and do some "Shramadana" when the road spoiled. But did any single person took interest how much fund Belle Pachayath has for the repair of Town Drainage? Did anybody check what tax they collect from shops and use it for them? Until we do not stop Ereg Dayegye, Enk Bodchiye. We will be 'Nama Inchaneye'. Again same blame each other. But at least some take little interest using RTI and educate people so that the leaders will be Useful to us.
Vally Fernand, Belle Wed, June-6-2012, 9:33
Good photographs of hardly working people. Common friends stop laughing on urself. Do something for our society. We need some young leaders in Belle. Vincy, Leela n others with the support of Belle youngsters clean the drains and show the panchyat members you can do the work without their help
Nelson, Udupi Wed, June-6-2012, 8:39
Hemphil, be happy that current panchayath leadership is doing some honest effort to solve the problem. This team is in power for the past two years only. For decades your favorite team was ruling in panchayath. Did they do any different? It is better to appreciate the one who is trying to solve the problem! Your men were always watching fun and did nothing too!!
John Peter Fernandes, Moodubelle/Nottingham U.K Wed, June-6-2012, 6:35
I have been observing many years same problem repeat but no solution still? Gram Panchayat or Zilla Panchayat leaders please find a permanent solution for this. Vincy and leela did some fantastic work if people don't raise their voice things won't happen in moodubelle.come out and speak!!!!!
kevin, belle Wed, June-6-2012, 6:00
The problem is real. It doesn t take much to solve this problem. Please do it. Elected representetives its your moral duty to do this and the volunteers please help the elected people (whether you like them or not). The couple of hours work should solve the problems for this rainy season. See the benefits specially for school children and belle may look beautiful. Be boardminded and broaden your horizon. World is watching through bellevision.
Vincent Dsouza, Shirva Wed, June-6-2012, 5:30
Dear Belleans, DO NOT blame the political leaders. For local political leaders of both the parties its business as usual. Blame yourself for your silence and CHALTAA HAI attitude. These leaders will fly away in their closed window vehicles, but who is the sufferer ?. Rainy season is not for the first time, every year during last week of May or first week of June it is going to rain. So these photos showing work by these petty politicians is only a publicity gimmick. BLAME YOURSELF because you are all silent all these days. You are divided between 2 political parties and you are forgetting about the unity and betterment of society. Unless you all come together irrespective of political affiliation, this will continue every year. Go and sit in front of Belle Panchayat on hunger strike and you will see the result in 2 days time. Also many other problems peculiar only to Belle will be solved when you agitate peacefully. SILENCE BY PUBLIC IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN DEMOCRACY.

I can see some people standing back giving cute smile rather than working. Where does the funds go to make proper repair and solid road? As we are in democractic country the questions to the leaders whom we have elected. Where does the income tax and other taxes paid goes? Thought for the people.
Roshan Alva, Dubai Wed, June-6-2012, 12:40
Are they doing work or the party campaign. Anil can you please publish the pictures of the work they carried out.
Naveen M., Moodubelle Wed, June-6-2012, 12:36
This problem will repeat every year as long as general public keep quiet. The main cause for the blockage is the mud flowing from the cross hill. Authorities must ensure that the contractors done proper job before rainy season start otherwise penalize them.
Benedict Noronha, Udupi Tue, June-5-2012, 11:21
Having bad experieince in the past years if the authority has not learnt, some thing must be done to drive home the severity of the problem and to get remedy. The neighbouring shop keepers must cooperate with the authority by allowing to cut out channels to flow water and also help the work done, though some inconveninece causes to them. It is a simple problem and could be solved in a day or to if properly done. It is a Public road and panchayath authorities right from village to Zilla panchayath must take it seriously. Else call for a Road bundh so that Zilla panchayath authorities come down and take up the responsibiliity. There is no point in party politicking. It is State Highway and must be taken up seriously and urgently by the concerned without delay.
