Manipal: Journalists protest the assault on media persons in Bangalore

Manipal, 03 March 2012: Condemning the assault by the lawyers on the media persons who were doing their duty in the premises of court in Bangalore, the Journalists of Udupi conducted severe protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Manipal.
The lawyers who are suppose to uphold the law have violated the law and by attacking the journalists they have shown their horrendous nature. The attack on the media is the attack on the forth part of the democratic system. It will not be wrong if we say that this is the attack on the democracy, said District Active Journalists Association President Kiran Manjanabailu, addressing the journalists.
K.C. Rajesh who represents from Udupi District to the State Association said that, this act of snatching the press freedom is condemnable. At this time the attack has been conducted even on the police who were on duty. The Association even condemns that, he said.
Later they submitted a petition to the Chief Minister through the Acting Deputy Commissioner Kumar urging that, whoever is guilty, they should be investigated quickly and proper legal action has to be taken. Also in the state a environment has to be created for the media to do their work independently.
Association Secretary Jayakara Suvarna, Treasurer Umesh Kakkupalke, National Representative from District Association Dinesh Kini and other office bearers, Newspaper – Website media representatives had participated in this protest.
