Udupi: “Urdhwarchane” in Krishna Mutt – the cleaning fest

Udupi, 09 July 2011: Udupi Shri Krishna gives darshan through the Kanakana Kindi all the time, but on Friday did not give darshan for some time, because he was covered. On Friday Urdhwarchane was conducted in Udupi Shri Krishna Mutt. That means it is the ceremony of washing and cleaning of the complete Krishna Mutt. The speciality of this occasion is that in this the Swameejis and all the devotees of Krishna will participate together. As per the tradition Swameejis will wear a head cap made from the banana leaf.

In this program except the Shri Krishna statue, all other statues, Garbhagudi, interior of roof, top roof will all be cleaned. During this time Shri Krishna will be covered with long basket. This process is also considered as the offerings of prayers and this is called as “Urdhwarchane”.
In the Urdhwarchane conducted on Friday, the Paryaya Shirooru Mutt Shri Lakshmivara Theertha, Pejavar Mutt Senior Shree Vishwesha Theertha, Junior Shree Vishwa Prasanna Theertha, Falimaru Mutt Shree Vidhyadeesha Theertha and the devottes participated.
