Udupi, 12 May 2013: No sooner Congress leader Siddaramaiah was announced as the future CM, a community feels curiosity while the other is in apprehensive.
Siddaramaiah urged the state administration to include Krishna mutt in Udupi under endowment department, when he was campaigning for AHINDA during 2005. He repeated the same whenever he had come to attend party programmes in the district, and also during the controversy over demolishing Kanaka Gopura at Krishna mutt.
Siddaramaiah could garner statewide support including Udupi district for his mission. It indeed created furore in Udupi. Meanwhile, the staunch followers of Swamijis of Krishna mutt formed an organization – Tulu Shivalli Madhwa Brahmana Mahamandala to stage struggle against nationalization of Krishna mutt and were successful to a greater extent. The coalition governments of JDS – BJP, BJP did not take any action against Krishna mutt; instead their leaders always arrived at the mutt to seek blessings from Swamijis and temple deity Lord Krishna.
Its during the recent assembly elections campaign, Siddaramaiah had announced if Congress comes to reign in Karnataka, the ambitious Cow Slaughter Bill tabled by the later minister Dr V S Acharya will be ratified. It has indeed angered Tulu Shivalli Madhwa Brahmana Mahamandala. Aravind Acharya, president of Tulu Shivalli Madhwa Brahmana Mahamandala issued a press release ahead of assembly elections urging the voters as not to vote for Congress that is being represented by Siddaramaiah.
However, now the Congress has got majority and will form the government with Siddaramaiah as CM. Whether he will ratify the Cow Slaughter Bill? Whether the state will take over the administration of Sri Krishna Mutt? It’s the concern of left wing and progressive parties, while it’s the apprehension of right wing and the followers of Krishna mutt.
