Anganavadi Girl dies, Villagers urge Teacher suspension

Belman, 25 February 2012: Prathvi (5 years) a girl from Kedinje Anganavadi Centre of Bola Grama, Karkala Taluk, daughter of labourer Prabhakara Moolya and Sunanda died on Wednesday as food got stuck in her lungs. The villagers conducted meeting at the Anganavadi on Friday and accused that the carelessness, irresponsibility and failure to give timely treatment by the Anganavadi Teacher and Assistant has caused the death, so both of them has to be suspended. Also the complaint was given to the higher officers to provide proper compensation to the parents of the child.
Receiving the petition from the Villagers, Child Welfare Development Officer Sadananda Nayak said that he will discuss this matter with the higher officers soon and will take action accordingly. He said there have been complaints on the Anganavadi Teacher regarding lack of performance of duty, it will be examined and action will be taken. It has been confirmed that there was no problem in the food which is being supplied by the department. Dr. Yashodhar from Nitter Primary Health Centre have examined all other children before their parents, he said.
Bola Grama Panchayath President Jayakara Moolya, Retired Headmaster N. Tukarama Shetty, Nagarika Trust Secretary Prabhakara Inna, Grama Panchayath Members Sudhakara Poojary, Mamatha, Jayanthi from Education Resource Centre, Kulal Community Association President Mahabala Moolya, Children Welfare Development Department Officers Susheela, Prabhavathi and the Parents of the Children had participated in the meeting in large numbers. Shradhanjali and prayers were offered for the soul of the Child.
