Mangalore: Exciting and colourful Kite Festival organised at Panambur Beach

Mangalore, 23 Janaury 2012: Team Mangalore organised Kites Festival on Saturday 21 and Sunday, 22 January 2012 at the Panambur beach. The Kites Festival was inaugurated by the Police Commissioner of Mangalore, Simant Kumar on Saturday. Speaking at this occasion, the Police Commissioner said that there are no boundaries for the Kites Festival. It is beyond any religion, nation and community. This festival propagates friendship among nations. Such festivals can also promote tourism in the city.
Teams from various countries including India, England, South Korea, Netherlands, Lebanon, Kuwait, Indonesia and France participated in the Kites Festival.
Among the Indian Kites ‘Kathakkali’ was the largest kite whereas the kites flown by the Kuwaiti team were the most attractive with two fish and tigers models. The kites could be seen from far away distances.

Sunday being a holiday, there was a large crowd of people who thronged the Panambur beach to witness this extraordinary Kites Festival. This Kites Festival was the talk of the town. This shows the interest of the people from Mangalore in the Kites Festival.
The theme of this year’s Kites festival was “one Sky, One Earth and One Family”.
Team Mangalore is a hobby group of kite makers and flyers. Founded in 1998, Team Mangalore has carved a niche for itself at all international Kite Festivals. It has participated in Kite Festivals in various parts of India. It has over the years, used the medium of kites to introduce the rich cultural heritage of India to the world.
