ICYM Unit of Moodubelle Celebrates Golden Jubilee with Grandeur

Udupi/M’Belle, 09 Dec 2024: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Unit of St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle celebrated its Golden Jubilee with grandeur and cultural extravaganza on Sunday, 08 December 2024 from 04 pm to 9.30 pm. The Golden Jubilee celebration was marked by the inauguration of the Mast Light in the church premises donated by the ICYM in commemoration of its Golden Jubilee, stage programme, felicitations and grand cultural presentation by four groups, and distribution of prizes to the winners of various sports and games organized by ICYM  during the first three Sundays of November 2024. 

 

Prior to the stage programme, the Mast Light near the Grotto was inaugurated by Mrs. Regina D’Souza, mother of Dr. Ronald Saby D’Souza-the chief sponsor of the Mast light. Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo-Bishop of Udupi Diocese formally switched on the Mast Light in the presence of guests and parishioners. 

 

The ICYM members and the guests went to the Parish Hall in procession for the stage programme.

Following prayer song by the ICYM members the guests were escorted to the stage by Ms. Viana Fernandes-President of ICYM and Samroy Sequeira. Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo presided over the stage programme. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Rev. Dr. Roshan D’Souza-Chancellor of the Udupi Diocese, Rev. Fr. Charles Menezes-Dan of Udupi Deanery, Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Lawrence Cutinha-Assistant Director of CODP Mangalore, Rev. Fr. Stephern Fernandes-ICYM Director of Udupi Diocese, Rev. Fr. Ronson D’Souza-Director of ICYM Udupi Deanery, Rev. Fr. George D’Souza-Parish Priest of Moodubelle, Rev. Fr. Rickson Monteiro-Assistant Parish Priest Moodubelle, Pritish D’Sa-Vice Presdient of Moodubelle PPC, Charles Quadros-Secretary of the PPC, Mrs. Gracy Rebello-Convener of 20 Commissions, Valerian Noronha-Convener of Youth Commission Moodubelle, Mrs. Shanti Alvaa-Animator of ICYM Moodubelle and Ms. Viana Ferandes-President of the ICYM Moodubelle Unit. 

Ms. Viana Fernandes welcomed the dignitaries on the dais and also briefly narrated the history and progress of the ICYM Unit that was started in the parish 50 years back in 1974 with late Peter Raphael Aranha as the first president and late Rev. Fr. V.G.F. Rego as the first spiritual director. 

 

The dignitaries on the dais honoured Mrs. Regina D’Souza-mother of Dr. Ronald Saby D’Souza, the principal sponsor of the Mast Light. 

 

It was a nostalgic moment when the past presidents of the ICYM Unit Moodubelle were felicitated by Rev. Fr. Lawrence Cutinha-the chief guest of the programme by presenting them mementoes. Those who were not present were represented by their family members. 

In his message, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Cutinha said that it was a day of happiness and satisfaction as the ICYM members of Moodubelle celebrated their Golden Jubilee. It was a day of dedication, service, progress and blessing. He applauded the progress of the ICYM Unit of Moodubelle in various fields. Citing the example from birds, Fr. Lawrence Cutinha said that youth should follow the instincts of the birds as they are united, they fly high and they manifest hope and faith in their ability. So also the youth of the parish should be united, have high aim and should have strong hope and faith. 

 

Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo released the Souvenir of the Golden Jubilee along with other dignitaries on the dais. 

 

Rev. Dr. Roshan D’Souza honoured the leaders of the four teams: Denis Martis-leader of Team Titans, Joseph Martis-leader of Team Dynamic Duo, Nevil D’Souza-leader of Team Rising Stars, and Ivan Menezes-leader of Team Mercy.

 

In his brief address Rev. Dr. Roshan D’Souza recalled his service to the Moodubelle Parish as Assistant Parish Priest nearly 10 years ago and his concentration on training and formation of the Altar Servers many of them have grown up to be the members of the ICYM. He complimented the ICYM and wished them well. 

Rev. Fr. Charles Menezes, Rev. Fr. Stephen Fernandes, Rev. Fr. Ronson D’Souza and Prtish Burton gave away mementoes to the donors and sponsors. 

 

In his message, Rev. Fr. Charles Menezes said that ICYM provides an opportunity for the youth to come together and know each other in a better way. This promotes mutual respect, companionship and a spirit of working together for the betterment of the parish and society. 

 

Rev. Fr. Stephen Fernandes and Rev. Fr. Ronson D’Souza complimented the ICYM Unit of Moodubelle on the occasion of their Golden Jubilee and wished them well. 

 

Speaking on this occasion, Rev. Fr. George D’Souza expressed great satisfaction with the growth and service of the ICYM Unit of Mooddubelle. However, he reminded the youth that they should aim higher and achieve greater success in their lives such as fulfilling the dream of our Bishop of having our youth in higher government service.

 

The ICYM Unit of Moodubelle honoured Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo on for completing 75 years of his life and 25 years of his Pastoral Service.

 

In his presidential address, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo congratulated the ICYM  Unit of Moodubelle on the occasion of their Golden Jubilee and implored for God’s blessings on them. Speaking of the situation in which the youth are being placed in modern times facing unemployment, stress and depression, the Bishop said that youth should develop ‘Mental Toughness’ to cope up with such a kind of situation. He also called upon the youth to repay the three debts that they owe to parents, society and teachers. This debt can be repaid by fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the parents; by being grateful to th support of the society by rendering whatever service they can do to the society and by evolving as ideal human beings and responsible citizens of the nation. The Bishop of said that he did not give up his dream of seeing at least some of our youth entering into higher government service. 

 

Ms. Ashlitha Mendonca proposed the vote of thanks, Aron Barboza read the list of the donors and Ms. Rosly Carol Quadros compered the programme.

Following the conclusion of the stage programme, the cultural programme presented by the four teams commenced starting with Team Titans followed by Team Rising Stars, Team Mercy and Team Dynamic Duo. Each team was allotted half an hour during which they were required to perform three items such as dance, skit and voviyo. 

 

The judges were: Rev. Fr. Sunil D’Silva-Parish Priest of Sasthan, Fr. Leo Pravin D’Souza-Director of Diocesan Ecumenical Commission and Rev. Fr. Alwyn Sequeira-Editor of “Uzwaad”.

 

All the four teams had put in a lot of efforts in preparing the stage with authentic props relevant to traditional old time Roce and Weddings. Large number of participants had an opportunity to present their acts and all of them performed quite well. 

 

In between the events, prizes were distributed to the winners in various sports and games conducted by the ICYM during the first three Sundays of November 2024. 

 

Based on the judgement of the three evaluators the four teams secured the following places in the cultural presentation: 1. Team Titans 2. Team Rising Stars  3. Team Mercy and 4. Team Dynamic Duo.

 

At the end putting together all the points secured by different teams in all sporting, quiz and cultural events, the four teams ranked for over all championship in the following ranks: 1. Team Titans 2. Team Dynamic Duo  3. Team Rising Stars and 4. Team Mercy.

 

Prior to the distribution of trophies, Rev. Fr. George D’Souza expressed his gratitude to the ICYM, leaders of the four teams, Valerian Noronha and the entire parish family for their whole hearted participation and support to the Golden Jubilee of the Moodubelle ICYM Unit. He felicitated Valerian Noronha for his leadership and coordination with the ICYM Unit.

The ICYM Unit of Moodubelle desrves credit for organizing such a great Golden Jubilee programme. With the guidancce and support of Rev. Fr. George D’Souza, Rev. Fr. Rikson Monteiro, Vicce President of the PPC Prtish Burton, Secretary Charles Quadros and all the members of the PPC and Finance Committee, Youth Commission Convener Valerian Noronha, animator Mrs. Shanti Alva, the ICYM UNit under the Presidentship of Ms. Viana Fernandes, Secretary Samroy Sequeira and the Core Committee.

 

Ms. Viana Fernandes bron on 07 Novembeer 2002 is the daaughter of Abraham Vincent Fernandes and Rovetta Linny Fernandes. After completing her SSLC in St. Lawrence English Medium School, Moodubelle, Viana secured B.Com. degree from the Poorna Prajna College, Udupi and presently she is doing her M.Com course. She has been a member of the Church Choir. Her brother Adolf Ferrnandes is doing Engineering Course in MIT Manipal. 

 

Samroy Johnson Sequeira, born on 26 June 2004 is the son of Gilbert and Stells sequeira. He studying BCA in St. Mary’s College, Shirva.
