Dear family members please accept our Heartfelt condolences. May his soul rest in peace.
In my opinion it s clearly indicate that the indian society is not grown up to the level of implimenting the crony capitalist policies as of now.Actually Modi is in a dilemma to keep his image as the apostle of capitalism in india. Its clearly seen in the pricing of covid vaccines. He dont want to loose the image of indian market by regulating the drugs patent law in this issue. Thus he is teying to please the i ternational business community and sent the message that India is not like earlier where Bayer corp lost huge market with a case against Natco pharma. Here the queation is what is imporatant..image or the right and life of citizen....I think stiĺl a mix of socialistic and capitalistic policies are good...we need a sustainable development not a bubble. Here i can say that Kejeriwal model of development is also a failure but to some extent kerala model of development is surviving some what. Its the time establish an ecosystem and infrasturcture which can handle a devastating pandemic like this in future because the present war is not face to face but hiden...
I read somewhere that Modis advisors told him that we were exceptional geneticslly, the reasson why we did not have high mortality and cases in the first wave. I guess he took it seriously.
Heartfelt condolences to all family members. May her soul rest in peace.

Congrats, our ever-young traveler! To me, it seems the tour operators has packed just too much seeing" as it turns out. One aspect missing in the report is local cuisine; food is integral to culture as song, dance, music and artefacts are. The NE cuisine is great; am saying it because here in Mumbai s back-lanes, I get to enjoy a variety. Divine, for me brought up on many til based sweets.

If Petrol and diesel comes under GST, it will not be more than 50 Rs per Litre. Thank you Philip Sir for mind opening and educating article.
Timely article. Comparison between 2014 and 2021 says it all crystal clear. After 6 years of governance they are blaming previous governments is naughty. Even after so much exorbitant tax collection can we see any major development? For highways we pay toll at every short distance and the roads are unfinished and without street lights. Where does tax money go and taxes of vehicles? I would say weak opposition has to bare part of the blame. Its true-good for politicians while they are in government and bad while in opposition. Common man is squeezed to the last drop. What a pity! Where are we heading to....during this tough pandemic???
Fuel on fire... Indeed it is... Well explained!!
The frequent hike in excise duty by the centre and sales tax by state government s are said to be the main reasons for the high fuel prices in India.
Petro-products have been deliberately kept outside the ambit of the goods and services tax.
All in all the taxes are about 227% of the actual cost of petrol.
The petroleum pricing has nothing to do with business/trade parctices, cost of inputs and overheads or economics. It is the govt with a mojority running rufshod with citizens, albeit with the consent of a large section of the society which owns the govt ( of Hindu Rashtra ). There cannot be any other explanation to this madness; Modi-fied New India !
Extremely detailed and thought provoking. Modi seems to not notice the efforts by prev govts to reduce dependence on Crude oil imports by offering pulic transport options like Metro rails. The oppn seems to be dumbstruck at times. Also crude imports hv only risen yearly since 2014.
The recipient students and the school should be grateful to the sponsors and donors, and thanks to the efforts of teachers especially Headmistress.
Heartfelt condolences to all family members. May her soul rest in peace.
Actually These people should protest and warn against fuel and gas price.....
Very interesting to note that 25% is interest burden on its outstanding debt. Any individual or country under debt trap going to have bumpy ride and at times fatal crash.
Sad that Modi govt borrowed highest in 66 years since independence. Opposition is weak and most voters feel whatever Modi does is right due to their hardcore affiliation. Hope there will be some change and light at end of the tunnel.
Looks Amazing, Appreciate all who involved. It’s looks like Cisterns Chapel.
Great work of Parishioners and parish council, and our both priests
Great photo essay, DR. Eugene. You have brought the art-work to us, those who do not have the chance to witness in person.
As usual, well written article. I agree with Philip s assessment on GDP MSP and sorry social state of some Punjabi youths. All I fail to understand is that how does all this absolve the central government of the farmers understanding of the Laws and their fears.
Quite enlightening article dear Philip. Agree with your assessmentd of MSP, Punjabi youth problems, GDP and all that you have brilliantly written. All I fail to understand is that how does it absolve the central government of the farmers arguments and fears.
Wow.its a wonderful change and fabulous painting, church santuary was looking always peaceful since i saw with plain colour on the wall but now it looks graceful..loved the beautiful colours n painting
Wow! What a transformation! Looks heavenly. Great job by Wilson Kayyar. Congratulations to all those involved in beautifying the church and Commodore for sponsoring it. Prominent saints on the edges of the arches on the east and west side of the sanctuary has rendered rich finishing touches.
Good article rich in content by Philip. There is communication break between policymakers and farmers. True, there are disoriented youth out there may be bit more compared to other regions. There are many arguments on freebees to farmers, actual sufferer is small farmer as Philip opined. On the other hand Panjabis are a major migrant chunk in Canada...often criticised for taking advantage of loopholes...
Very good article which has given real picture of farmers protest
7. The new survey by Pew Research Center, conducted Jan. 8-12 among 5,360 U.S. adults, including 4,040 who say they voted in the presidential election, finds that a sizable majority of Americans do not want Trump to remain a major political figure after he leaves office. About two-thirds (68%) say Trump should not continue to be a major national political figure for many years to come; just 29% say he should remain a major figure in U.S. politics. Contrast this with Joe Biden s figures: 64% approved his more accommodating and bi-partisan approach to governance, as noted in his speeches, presidential behavior and choice of admin officials and cabinet.
6. It is important for any dominant leader to demonstrate empathy, humility and, most importantly, that his or her actions have been governed by the need of the hour—to help others rather than to promote his or her own cause. Global experiences have shown that people are willing to pardon the negative actions of even a dominant leader if she or he comes across as caring and empathetic, as the demonstrated attributes of a prestige based leader. Modi and Xi, despite harboring classic authoritarian traits, have done exactly that. In their messages to their people, they have shown compassion and sympathy and thus have seen a stable rise in popularity since the crisis began. Watch Modi s constant media events and Mann-ki-baath, aimed directly to people over everyone s heads. Check the recent MOTN of India Today-Karvy Opinion Polls in India. Trump failed to show empathy with the Americans facing the Corona Pandemic, blaming China rather than planning how to help his voters to deal with the virus.
5. In response to setbacks, a go-to strategy for dominant leaders is to blame an external party for the current troubles so that the people can rally around a common enemy. This has been a successful plan for many such dominant leaders, including Modi, Putin and Trump. Trump very effectively used the strategy in the 2016 election when, as an outsider to politics, he blamed the current establishment (Washington Swamp, he derisively said) and immigrants (termites in Amit Shah tongue) to buffer his support among voters. Build a wall not a bridge was his appeal (contrast it with Pope Francis Call). I have lived in the US long enough to see what jobs the Mexicans are doing (which white Americans are unwilling, in any case).
4. Is Trump the best President Americans had? Poll aggregator FiveThirtyEight compares his job approval ratings with twelve of his predecessors (post WWII) belonging to both parties and he comes at the bottom (as an average).
3. The same Gallup tracking Polls show his job approval ratings among non-partisan independents not higher than 41% and not lower than 30%, the lowest post capitol Siege. His numbers among Democrat Party voters were a high of 14% and low of 1%. This is why he is billed as a great divider and not a unifier.
2. President Trump s hold on the Republican Party and citizens identified as Republicans is visible by the Gallap daily tracking approval ratings. High point 95% and low point 77%, with 82% approving his job performance by 82%. This explains why ranking Republican leaders are wary of dumping him in order that his base is not enraged against them.
