Mangalore, 10 August 2010: A 26 year old worker died after he was caught between the door of a faulty lift and the wall at Cochin Bakery Building in Kankanady, here on Sunday evening, August 8. The deceased has been identified as Vajesh, a Keralite, who was working in the same bakery for over eight years.
After a joint struggle, firemen and police personnel managed to recover the body from the lift through cutting the concrete floor. The reason for this unexpected tragedy occurred in the old fashioned manually working lift is not yet clear. “It is unclear how the accident occurred. We just saw that his head had got caught between the lift and the adjacent floor”, a police officer said.
One of the witnesses said that the deceased was probably about to move down with certain materials. “The lift suddenly slid down when he opened the door and stepped into it. At the moment his neck was strangled accidentally and he was suffocated to death”, he said.
