Mumbai, 31 July 2010: The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Saturday turned down the Indian Olympic Association’s request of giving Rs 100 crore aid for the 19th Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi from October 3 to 14.
Last year, the BCCI had come to the rescue of the All India Football Federation to assist it in preparing the Indian squad for the upcoming Asian Cup, for which the team has qualified after almost a quarter century, and granted AIFF Rs 25 crore for this specific purpose, but the Working Committee that met here was not in a charitable mood and thus did not accede to the request that was made by IOA chief Suresh Kalmadi, who is also the head of the organising committee of the Commonwealth Games
The BCCI and the IOA are not anyway not known to share a cordial relationship as the latter had hit out at the Board for having decided not to send a team for the Asian Games to be held in China in November. The BCCI had earlier also turned down the IOA’s request to re-schedule the India-Australia series, dates of which clash with the Commonwealth Games.
In the meeting, the BCCI Working Committee also approved the candidature of Alan Isaac, Chairman of New Zealand Cricket for the post of ICC vice president. The Committee also noted the satisfactory resolution to the WADA Anti-Doping issue, with the ICC and approved the proposal to seek the services of Dr Vece Paes, former Olympian, as Anti-Doping Officer, according to a statement issued by the BCCI.
