Former Mayor Sunanda Bolur presented with "New Light-2024"

Mangaluru: The 13th anniversary of the Women Awareness Committee and the Empowerment of Women Domestic Workers Project, Mangaluru, was held at the Kunjattabail HMC Grounds.

 

The 13th Anniversary New Light Award Presentation Program was inaugurated by Dr. Y. Bharat Shetty, MLA of Mangalore North Legislative Assembly constituency.

 

Speaking later, he said that in the Kali era, there is no greater power than organization. It is a good development that domestic workers are organized. It is the first time in my life that I am participating in a program organized by a domestic workers organization.

 

Mangaluru Municipal Corporation member Sharath Kumar participated as the chief guest and spoke and said that Sansad Kunjatthabail has been continuously fighting for children and women. We should all encourage him.

Geeta Menon, Secretary of the Women’s Awareness Committee and Domestic Workers’ Rights Union, presided over the program and said that the government has not given labor cards to domestic workers. There should be a discussion about domestic workers in the session. We have been successful in establishing domestic workers’ organizations in Mangalore, Bangalore and Belgaum. In the coming days, we will work for domestic workers by establishing domestic workers’ organizations across the country. They said they will continue the fight.

 

On this occasion, the "New Light Award-2024" was presented to Sunanda Bolur, former Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation.
