Kundapur: Public stage stir after girl dies in hospital

Kundapur, 12 June 2010: Hundreds of public staged a protest in front of a private nursing home after a girl, who was admitted to the nursing home, died allegedly due to the doctor’s negligence on Saturday.
The body of the deceased too was kept at the hospital by protesters. Finally, the DySP intervened and solved the problem. According to the kin of the deceased, Gowri, the daughter of Lakshman Naik, a resident of Kuntuhole and a nursing student at Murudeshwara college, was admitted at the hospital on June 4 after she complained of stomach ache.
The doctors at the hospital reportedly gave treatment for apendisitis and operated upon her. As Gowri’s condition worsened, the authorities at the nursing home shifted her to A J Hospital in Mangalore where she continued to receive treatment. But she died on June 11 following which Gowri’s father filed a case against the doctor who operated upon her in the private nursing home.
According to the doctors at the nursing home, they shifted Gowri to Mangalore after she developed complications while passing urine. The body was sent for post mortem to Government Wenlock Hospital. When the body arrived at Kundapur, a large number of people staged a protest in front of the private nursing home.
However, DySP Vishwanath Pandith intervened and assured the protesters that action will be taken against the accused following which the protesters withdrew their protest. Following the protest, traffic was affected for about two hours. Tahsildar Raju Mogaveera and Circle Inspector Madan G Gaonkar among others were present.
