Mangalore: Boy injured as science experiment backfires
Mangalore, 21 Sep 2013: A simple science experiment carried out in private literally backfired with one volunteer suffering injuries to his eyes here on Monday.
Pranks played by boys of St Rita English Higher Primary School ended up injuring their classmate, Amogh G A, 12, a class VII student. Amogh, son of Ashok G M and Asha of Mahakalipadpu, was on his way back home when the incident took place. Two boys from his class called Amogh inside the school toilet, where they had kept sodium that was allegedly stolen from the school lab. The boys asked Amogh to pour water on sodium. Not knowing the consequences, Amogh poured water on sodium, which led to an explosion that left his eyes injured.
Ashok told that Amogh has sustained injuries to both eyes. "While the left eye has been cured, he needs treatment for his right eye for a few more days," he said, adding that the school authorities have extended cooperation to treat the boy.
"I have no complaint against the boys, who did the prank. They might have done it for fun sake," Ashok said.
Doctors, who treated Amogh said that the boy is recovering.
