Tulu will be part of school curriculum: Acharya

Udupi, 02 August 2010: Home Minister Dr V S Acharya said that importance should be given to promote Tulu language and its affluent cultural tradition. The language ought to be included as study material to preserve it from getting extinct.
Speaking after inaugurating ‘Aatid Onji Dina-Ponjave Kuta’ organised jointly by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Mangalore, Mahila Mandaligala Okkuta, Udupi, Bantara yane Nadavara Mathrasangha, Udupi Taluk and Taluk Youth Bunts Association here at Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Hall on Saturday, he said Tulu will be part of school curriculum. Tulu has rich cultural and historical legacy. Attempts should be made to preserve and promote the language.
The ethnicity of Tulu language should spread across the border, he said. Varieties of cuisines were displayed on the occasion. ‘Nuppu’, ‘Pathrode,’ ‘Pelakayi chatni,’ ‘Timare chatni,’ ‘Ale,’ ‘Neeruppad,’ ‘Kukku chatni’ delicious food served to the participants on the occasion.
Rural games like ‘lagori,’ ‘chennamane’ were played by the women. Mahila Mandaligala Okkuta, Udupi President Sarala Kanchan, Taluk Youth Bunts Association President Jayaker Shetty Indrali, Sheela Shetty and others were present on the occasion.

Existence of any Language can be continued only by practicing . It should start from grass root level. Adults must encourage their children to speak tulu at home or in society.I can see in our native that tulu speaking people drastically reduced instead they adopted Kannada or English which they feel more proud. Tulu such a sweet language we must put our efforts to preserve its existence. |
