M’lore: Annual Day Celebrated at Lourdes Central School Bijai

Mangalore, 24 January 2012: The Annual Day was celebrated in the Lourdes Central School Bijai, Mangalore in the school open ground on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 5 pm. Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva S.J., Principal of St. Aloysius College, Mangalore was the chief guest. Other guest of honour was Ivan D’Souza, General Secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. Rev. Dr. Victor Machado, parish priest of Bijai Church presided over the Annual School Day celebration.
The chief guest, Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva S.J. distributed prizes to the meritorious students in academics, sports and other extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. In his address, Fr. Swebert appreciated the progress done by the school in all spheres of education.
The students of the school presented excellent variety entertainment programme that thrilled over thousand audience. The chief attraction of the evening was the presentation of culture from different states of India. The group of students exhibiting the cultures of Goa and Punjab received thundering ovation from the appreciating audience. The students also performed various group dances including the traditional Yakshagana.
Lourdes Central School, Bijai was founded by Rev. Fr. Bernanrd L. D’Souza in 1999 with classes from Nursery to 4th standard in the Kannada medium. Later, Rev. Fr. J.P. Tauro continued the progress of the school from 5th standard onwards. He introduced English medium instruction from 6th standard onwards and worked hard to see to it that the school would have natural growth till SSLC and later too PUC in English medium. He was instrumental in getting the Lourdes School affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi. Hence Lourdes School came to be known as Lourdes Central School. The first batch of the PUC students appeared for the CBSE examination in 2010.
The present Principal of Lourdes Central School is Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Gonslaves.
