Dubai: Cha Fra’s Drama “Bhangar Monis” mesmerizes the Konkan audience

Dubai, 01 October 2011: Renowned Konkani drama “ Bhangar Monis “ written by Late. Cha Fra D’costa was successfully staged in Dubai during “Ek Saanz Mazechi” organized by Mangalore Konkans Dubai. A long cherished dream of watching a drama written by Late Ch.FPra. D’Costa was realized and the dream was fulfilled yesterday in Dubai at Shk. Rashid Auditorium in Dubai.
Roshan D’Silva a well known emcee in Dubai entered the stage with a beautiful song: Moja Jivant, Moja Monat (of Wilson Oleivera) and was applauded by audience for his singing skills as well. He announced “Ek Saanj Majechi “ an musical and drama event presented by Mangalore Konkans, a premier association in Dubai gave the Konkani community what they deserve and it was truly an evening of fun and entertaining. The first session involved live singing session by winners of Gulf Voice Mangalore from U.A.E. Kuwait and Qatar namely: Vinay Lewis, Warren D’Souza, Ivan Fernandes, Dony Correa, Prima Pinto. They presented old and news hits from the various Konkani albums such as Sonia, Rozaline mojem mogachem, Mojem kaliz mogan borlam, Suzana, Sooryachim kirna, Zaithe Thornatte, Chondrem udaivn ailo, Suryo Budon, Sasumai and finally singers sang “Mog Kora Konknecho’ of Wilfy Rebimbus which calls everyone to speak Konkani and help in keeping the Konkani culture alive.
It was the drama however captivated the audience and held them to the seat fully engrossed. The acting skills and delivery of dialogues was superb and never seen in Konkani theatre until now. The theme involved a ex-lover Mona (Denis Monterio Vamanjor) who was in search of food lands up in the house of Jenna popularly known in the vicinity as “Bhangar Monis” for his social and charitable deeds ( played by Stany Alvares) who’s wife Inna (Sapna Saldhana) was Mona’s lover prior to her marriage to Jenna.
All artists played their parts superbly and most amazing was the spontaneous delivery of dialogues and expressions captured the audience most. The audience left the auditorium with a “Wow” expression and not a soul left when the drama was in session. The drama was directed by Denis Monterio and music was provided by well-known music director Joel Pereira and background singing was provided by Vinay Lewis.
The artists, media persons, singers and sponsors were felicitated by the president of Mangalore Konkans Mr. James Mendonsa and committee members. Mr. Lawrence Pinto the originator of Gulf Voice Mangalore and Fr. James D’Souza, Parish Priest of Beltangady were also present and they too were felicitated by Mr. James Mendonsa.
Surprisingly the cabinet Minister Mr. Virappa Moily of Mangalore origin had a brief visit to the programme prior to the drama and addressed the audience. He was accompanied by enterprenuer Mr. Ronald Colaco. Mr. Moily thanked the organizers especially James Mendonsa for inviting him for the community event and wished them luck.
The music for the singing session was provided by Joel Pereira and troupe namely, Roshan Carlo, Vincent Rodrigues, Milan, and Jijo.
It was a successful attempt by Mangalore Konkans to present music and drama on the same stage and it turned out to be a ‘Mazechi Saanz’ which will be remembered by everyone for a long time.
