Beltangady: Sri Kshetra Dharmastala christens female calf elephant as Shivani

Beltangady, 31 Aug 2020: Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmastala, near here christened the female calf of temple elephant as Shivani during the rituals on Monday August 31 at 9.30am.
Dr Heggade’s granddaughter Manya announced the name of calf as Shivabni after the former laid the basket full of fruits to savor for Shivani.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Heggade said, ‘It’s the tradition at Sri Kshetra Dharmastala to use the elephants in temple rituals. It has 2 female elephants named Lata and Laxmi. Laxmi gave birth to a female calf on July 1 that was christened as Shivani. The temple elephants roam freely in forests and savor on their choicest leafy diet. The elephant’s birth and christening is the milestone in the history of Sri Kshetra,’ said Dr Heggade.
The viewers were overwhelmed with the mischief of Shivani splashing water.
Hemavati V Heggade, Harshendra Kumar, Supriya Harshendra Kumar, Dr B Yasho Varma, Shradda Amit, Swami Mohandas of Manila mutt were present on the occasion.
