Doha: Qatar began the celebrations of National Day with an impressive parade

Doha, 18 December 2010: Qatar began the celebrations of National Day on Saturday, 18th December 2010, with an impressive parade at the Corniche in the morning at 08.30 am. The country’s historical and cultural legacy and military prowess were showcased in the hour long parade. At the end of the parade HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani drove through waving to the cheering crowd.
The National Day celebrations is special this time as Qatar also won the bid to host the FIFA Wolrd Cup 2022. Later in the evening at 04.00 pm classic cars will be on display and historical stations at the corniche area. Also, there will be children’s games conducted at the park. The celebrations will end in the night with the fireworks at the Corniche at 08.00 pm.
Participants in the parade were the army, navy, air force, internal security force, police, civil defense, coast guard and heritage police. Qatar National Television broadcasted the event live. Nationwide celebrations began earlier this week to mark Qatar’s National Day. Large Qatari national flags were displayed on so many buildings, also the flags were displayed on vehicles, street poles and everywhere.
People attended this event in huge numbers which included citizens and expatriates. Doha Corniche was closed for traffic on this day. There were many parking bays provided around the area. The celebrations were everywhere in Qatar including hotels, the education city and so many other places. It was a memorable experience.

Thank you Victor; I view the parade through eyes of an expert shutterbug like you. Your timing with the lens is perfect. I guess you got a vantage point to be, opposite the Interior Ministry Building. Well done. Last night, while driving back home from our church compound, I too witnessed the pomp and special way this national day is being marked in Qatar. A new nation is on the go, and what a way to go! |
