Doha, 09 November 2010: Residents of Doha witnessed the first rain showers of this season today afternoon around 03.00 pm. The weather was cloudy for a while and appeared to be raining. Then came the lightening and thunder, which followed by rain showers. Some areas like Salwa Industrial Area and Madinat Khalifa rained heavily.
Rain showers in this season are common every year. There will be few more showers like this in the next couple of months as winter is approaching. People practically enjoy the rain showers here as it is a rare scene to watch. More showers would be a mess on the roads with the water accumulation for sometime until it is cleaned off. One need to be very careful while driving on the wet roads.
In the last few days there has been some rain showers in Shamal and Ras Laffan which are in the outskirts of Qatar. Today also it rained heavily there. But in Doha this was the first rain in this season. The weather still remained cloudy today as more showers are expected.
Doha has year-round hot, sunny weather with very little rainfall. Winters are marginally cooler, especially at night, and there is some chance of rain. Summer starting as early as May and remains hot until around September. Winters, however, are milder. Maybe an inch of rainfall will occur outside the summer months, but no drops will fall basically from late April into early October.
