Melbourne: Valerian D’Souza elected president of Melbourne Konkan Community

Melbourne, 02 Nov 2014: The third annual general body meeting (AGM) of Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) was held at St Joseph’s church hall, Nothcote, here on Saturday November 1.
Stephen P D’Souza conducted the proceedings of election. MKC secretary Stevin Carvalho welcomed the gathering that has assembled at the hall after the monthly Konkani Mass.
The AGM began with a prayer led by Fr Prakash Cutinha, parish priest of St Joseph church, Northcote, here.
The outgoing president Jossy Fernandes in his address thanked everyone for their co-operation for what was a very successful year and wished the incoming Committee the very best.
In the feedback session, many commended the Committee for their dedication and hard work that bore into fruition by the successes of various events throughout the year.
In the election that followed, the core Committee members for 2014-15 were elected unanimously: Valerian D’Souza as president, Sunil D’Souza as vice-president, Jane D’Souza as secretary and Dolly Cutinho as treasurer. Jawahar Sequeira was elected as the cultural secretary with Reema Furtado his deputy; Mevan D’Souza as media secretary and Philomena Fernandes as liturgical co-ordinator. Apart from this, 4 general members were elected. Fr Prakash Cutinha will serve as the spiritual director.
The president-elect Valerian D’Souza thanked the outgoing Committee and outlined his vision for the year ahead and requested for co-operation from one and all. He vouched to bring in more members to join the Association and introduce new programmes during the coming year.
Melbourne Konkan Community is a registered Association based in Hoppers Crossing, Victoria, Australia. It welcomes all Konkans residing in Victoria to be part of this growing community.
