Melbourne: Sunil D’Souza elected Prez of MKC, Elias Mascarenhas VP

Melbourne/Australia, 19 Nov 2015: The sun had set on what was an eventful year and the day had dawned to elect a new Committee to carry forward the torch of Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC), as per the by-laws of the registered Association.
St. Joseph’s Church Hall, Northcote, north-east of CBD was the venue for the fourth Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) on Saturday November 14. After the Konkani Holy Mass in the iconic Church, members proceeded to the hall to elect their representatives for the year 2015-16.
Manoj D’Silva conducted the proceedings of the AGM. After invoking God’s blessings and a brief welcome, the outgoing President Valerian D’Souza thanked one and all for their co-operation on a successful year and wished the Committee that was to be elected the very best. In the feedback session, dedication and hard work of the outgoing Committee was duly commended that bore into fruition by the smooth flowing of various events throughout the year.
In the election that ensued, Sunil D’Souza (president), Elias Mascarenhas (vice president), Sharon D’Costa (secretary) and Austin Carvalho (treasurer) were unanimously elected to Core Committee for 2015 to 2016.
Manoj D’Silva will be the Cultural Secretary with Philomena Fernandes his deputy. Mevan D’Souza, Stevin Carvalho will be media and publicity co-ordinators while Jossy Fernandes will be the liturgical co-ordinator. In addition to this, six general members were also chosen.
The President-elect Sunil D’Souza in his address thanked the outgoing Committee for their perseverance and outlined his vision for the year ahead and requested for co-operation from one and all. He pledged to continue on the excellent work the Committee has been doing introducing new programmes which would include greater give-back to the community and youth involvement.
