Also note that the student groups do NOT follow road safety precautions. Anyone working alongside an active motorway should partially block traffic or barricade the segment in order to avoid being hit by road users. This is the problem with tokenism of any kind. Must be waiting for Road Safety Abhiyaan by PM!

The schools and colleges should leave such tokenism to politicians and their followers. Instead of aping their symbolic acts, once the school function of flag hoisting and administering the pledge is over, they must form into small teams and head to homes of identified students and teachers for a housekeeping patrol according to a prepared check-list. The patrol should generate punch items in accordance with a local standards of cleanliness and hygiene. The tasks shall be performed by the owner student/teacher daily and routinely in order to keep their household in clean and hygienic standards. Based on periodic verification of tasks completed and level of cleanliness improved, the student must be given credits (marks)in the extra-curricular activities segment. The annual salary increments to teachers should also be linked to the results reached.
