Udupi: The Career Guidance and Placement Cell, in collaboration with the Commerce Department of Milagres College Kallianpur, organized an industrial visit to Gurucharan Industries in the Baikampady industrial area on April 12, 2025. The visit aimed to provide 50 final-year B.Com students with practical knowledge about industry operations, divisions, and working. The students were accompanied by Mrs. Radhika Patkar, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Ganesh Nayak, Placement Officer.
At Gurucharan Industries, students were guided by Mr. S. Kadirvelu, Assistant Manager, who explained the company’s history, products, and services. The company, promoted by Jayakar Shettigar in 1996, manufactures plastic processing machines, allied machinery, spare parts, and components. Students observed various industrial processes, including drilling, tapping, threading, knife grinding, and surface grinding. They also learned about the company’s exports to nearly 20 countries worldwide, with machinery valued between ?16 lakhs and ?2.5 crores.
The students engaged in an interactive session with Mr. Kadirvelu, asking questions about organizational functions and departmental daily activities. Mr. Kadirvelu appreciated the students’ discipline and professional behavior, certifying their participation with a certificate. The session concluded with a thanks letter handed over to the company by Mr. Ganesh Nayak.
After visiting Gurucharan Industries, the students proceeded to Dakshina Kannada District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Societies’ Union Limited, where they were guided by Mr. Rajesh, Production Supervisor. He explained the production process of Nandhini products, including milk and its substitutes, and elaborated on the supply of raw materials. The session ended with a Q&A session, providing students with valuable insights into the dairy industry.
The industrial visit, successfully facilitated by Mrs. Radhika Patkar and Mr. Ganesh Nayak, provided students with a wonderful experience, offering practical exposure to industry operations, products, and services. The visit bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience, enhancing students’ understanding of industry practices and career prospects.
