Bantwal: The Bantwal Municipality general meeting held under the chairmanship of President B. Vasu Poojary has decided to take strict action against the excessive flex traffic and footpath encroachment and unauthorized structures being erected for trading on both sides of the national highway.
Member Hariprasad, who raised the issue in the meeting held on Wednesday, demanded that the meeting be informed of clear rules for erecting flexes and banners and that it be made clear what standards are being followed. Senior member A. Govinda Prabhu agreed.
Chief Officer Rekha J. Shetty, speaking, said that only banners made of cloth are allowed. A guidance program will be organized to provide clear guidelines to those who make other flexes and banners. All flexes and banners that obstruct the smooth flow of traffic on the national highway and on the footpaths on the roads and streets will be removed. Or action will be taken against those who do business and trade by creating unauthorized structures. This will be started from February 1st through Operation Garuda, he said, adding that the public and municipal members should cooperate in this.
The members, forgetting their party affiliations, complained that although a special meeting was held in the past and a long discussion was held regarding the drinking water pipeline, no implementation has taken place. Responding to a letter written by Devadasa Shetty, Municipal Chairman Vasu Poojary said that the bus stop in Kotramanagandi has not been used for years, and that steps should be taken to use it. He said that it will be stopped. In the discussion on various issues, members P. Ramakrishna Alva, Mohammed Sharif, Janardhana Chandtimar, Zeenat Firoz, Mohammed Nandarabettu, Siddique Guddeyangadi, Lukman Bantwal, Vidyavati Pramod Kumar, Idris P.J. and others spoke.
