Bantwal: Early detection of Cancer crucial for successful recovery - Dr Jayaram Shetty

Bantwal, 14 Feb 2022: The Youth Red Cross Unit (YRC) of Nitte Deemed to be University (NDU) in association with Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Dakshina Kannada district and Sevanjali Prathishtana® jointly organized a cancer screening and awareness camp at Farangipet, here on Saturday, February 12.
Sacheth Suvarna, YRC coordinator of DK district delivered the keynote address and spoke about the purpose in organizing this program.
The camp was inaugurated by Dr Shivakumar Hiremath, medical superintendent, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte, Mangaluru.
The head of department of oncology Dr Jayaram Shetty, head of the department of ENT Dr Vadish Bhat and surgical endocrinologist Dr Smitha from Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte. Mangaluru appraised the public on various types of cancer and the need for early detection and treatment.
The program was presided by CA Shantaram Shetty, chairman, IRCS, DK district.
In his presidential address, Shantaram congratulated the efforts of IRCS, Sevanjali Trust and the YRC unit of Nitte DU for the voluntary services offered to the community.
The camp mainly focused on screening patients for cancers in the ear, nose and throat, breast cancer, cervical cancer and oral cancer. A total of 107 patients were screened at the camp. Patients requiring video-assisted laryngoscopy, mammography or Pap-smear were referred to Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte for further treatment.
Coordinator of Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), Sateesh Shetty, Dr Ranjith Shetty and Dr Reema Rao from ABSMIDS, Utsha Sarkar, YRC program officer from Nitte Institute of Communication, Priyanka Nayak, YRC program officer from Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy, Raveendra, member, IRCS DK were present.
K Krishnakumar Punja, trustee, Sevanjali Prathishtana welcomed the gathering. The program was compered by Bhoomika, YRC volunteer from Nitte DU.
