Udupi: R-Day celebrated with patriotic fervor at St Mary’s College, Shirva

Udupi, 27 Jan 2022: 73rd R-Day was celebrated at St Mary’s College, Shirva, near here on Wednesday, January 26.
It was led by St Mary’s College, NCC (army wing). St Mary’s High School headmaster Gilbert Pinto hoisted the Tricolor flag on the occasion.
Later, he said that R-Day was being held on the occasion of Azadi Ki Amrut Mahotsav adhering to Covid-19 protocol. He also said, ‘Our nation faces major challenges from all fronts that have to rekindle our concern and patriotism. We got to cooperate with the government and educate the gen-next about the freedom struggle that had liberated us from imperial rulers in our motherland. We ought to empathize with our peasants and armed personnel, develop scientific attitude in our life,’ said Gilbert in his R-Day message.
The College principal Dr Herald Ivan Monis, Don Bosco Higher Primary School head teacher Pauline Lobo, second officer John William, NCC, NSS, Rovers-Rangers, PU College, degree college students, teaching and office staff were present.
The senior under officer Vishal S Moolya led the march past along with junior under officer Harshita, Suraksha, company sergeant quarter master Mohit N Salian, corporal Dhiraj, lance corporal Lobo Anriya, Neville, students Akshay, Anuf Nayak, Jancy and others.
The College NCC officer lieutenant K Praveen Kumar compered the programme. St Mary’s PU College designated-principal Amanda Muriel Sequeira proposed vote of thanks.
