SACAA president Michael D’Souza, in his address during the 111th annual general meeting outlined the efforts being made by SACAA, spearheaded by the fund-raising Committee convener, N G Mohan, to collect funds in India and abroad. Michael said that the estimated cost of the project has escalated and has now crossed Rs 50 million. Speaking on the occasion, St Aloysius Education Institutions rector and SACAA patron, Fr Denzil Lobo, said that SACAA members should help in projecting the image of the college to attract students from all over India and abroad. Alluding to the prospect of the college becoming an independent university in a couple of years, he stressed that St Aloysius campuses have impressive infrastructure to start and sustain such an university.
SAC principal and SACAA director Fr Swebert D’Silva, stressed the importance of the alumni to act as ambassadors of the college to the outside world and urged them to get involved with the developments in the college by volunteering as consultants in various fields – especially on retirement.
Fr Almeida urged members to play a greater role, and by more members, in advancing the mission of the Association.
Michael welcomed the gathering. SACAA secretary John B Monteiro proposed the vote of thanks. SACAA vice president Dr Richard Gonsalves gave a bird’s eye view of the activities of Association in the previous year. The treasurer Naveen Mascarenhas deliberated the proceedings.
