Mumbai (RBI), Mar. 29: As a result of the continuous efforts of Dakshina Kannada MP Cllr. Brijesh Chowta, the tender process for the maintenance work, re-asphalting and installation of safety systems of a total of 37.42 km of National Highways from Surathkal to BC Road, which falls under the jurisdiction of New Mangalore Port Corporation Limited (NMPRCL), is now in its final stage. It is expected that the contract company will be selected soon and the work will begin.

The New Mangalore Port Road Company Limited (NMPRCL) had invited tenders two months ago for the repair, resurfacing and maintenance of a total of 37.42 km of highways, including Surathkal-Nantur, BC Road-Padil and the bypass road from Nanthur Junction to Padil, passing through Dakshina Kannada district, especially in Mangaluru city limits, at a total cost of Rs. 26.05 crore. Now, about five companies have participated in the tender and the eligible company will be selected and the work will begin in a few days. Thus, the time is near to find a solution to the problems faced in terms of smooth movement of vehicles, transportation of goods and safety of passengers on this route connecting three highways.

Under this work, the 11.084 km long road from Surathkal to APMC, from Kulur to AJ Hospital and from Nanthur to Padil will be asphalted. In addition, the work of removing and cleaning the plants and hedges growing on the side of the highway will be carried out. In addition, the work of maintaining the roadside area, other maintenance works and installing safety systems on the highway will also be carried out.

Commenting on this, D.K. MP K. Brijesh Chowta said that due to the lack of proper maintenance of the highways connecting the New Mangalore Port, there were many problems and challenges for the smooth and safe movement of goods vehicles and other motorists. Now, NMPRCL has invited tenders to undertake the necessary work by prioritizing the proper maintenance of these highways and the safety of motorists, and the process is now in its final stage. If the necessary infrastructure is developed on these highways, it will be more convenient for the smooth and safe movement of goods vehicles and the public. He said that through this, the economic activities of Mangalore city, which is known as the commercial gateway of the state, will get a great boost.

The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving great emphasis on the development of infrastructure including roads across the country. However, the renovation and implementation of safety measures on the highways connecting the New Mangalore port was pending due to lack of funds. After I became an MP, I took great care in this regard and also held discussions with the ministry and tried to revitalize these highways, and the repair work of these highways will start soon. In this context, I would like to express my gratitude to Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and the Highways Department officials, said K. Chowta.
