Man arrested for pelting stones at grotto
Udupi, 28 May 2010: Shirva Police arrested one person in the early hours on Thursday following the complaint by one Gabriel Matthias regarding pelting of stones at the grotto of Mother Rosario at Kadarihitlu and damaging of glass panes by some miscreants.
The arrested has been identified as Ravi Quadras (40). Speaking to media persons, SP Prawin Pawar informed that action was taken by Shirva police considering the sensitivity of the issue and that primary interrogation has disclosed that Ravi Quadras was the one who pelted stones and damaged the grotto.
Further interrogation revealed that the accused is suffering from Schizophrenia and is undergoing treatment, he added. The property where the grotto is situated was donated by his grandfather.
Ravi Quadras was mentally disturbed by the lack of development of the area for the last 50 years and hence committed the crime, he said. A case has been registered in Shirva police station and the accused has been produced before JMFC court, Udupi. DySP Karkala Santhosh Kumar was present at meet.
