Udyavara, 30 June 2012: The sea erosion near the Pandarinath Bhajana Mandir in Kanakoda Padukere in Udyavara Grama has become severe and the high protection rock wall is getting into water. Sea is rough in this area, so the rocks of about 150 meter length shore are becoming part of the sea and the fisheries concrete roads are in the danger of getting damaged. 3 – 4 houses of fishermen are at the edge of danger and also there is possibility of couple of couple of electric poles getting damaged.
About 15 years ago high temporary protection wall was constructed using the rocks in about 800 meter length in Padukere. Because of these huge rocks, there was no sea erosion seen here. But the rough sea waves are swallowing these rocks one by one and the sea waves are sneaking beyond these rocks, causing panic among the locals.
Besides this sea erosion, there is also Udyavara river flowing in this area so the people here are helpless. Every year this sea erosion is seen as a common phenomenon, and none of the departments or the people’s representatives are thinking of finding a permanent solution to this problem. Though there was no storm in the early rain season, now as the sea level is raising and if any storm comes the erosion will get severe and living in the shore area will be impossible says the local fisherman Shivaram Putran.
