Karkala, 12 April 2010: Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa laid the foundation stone for the development works of Anekere lake project here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the 31.65-acre lake will be developed at a cost of Rs 65 lakh. He also said that a sum of Rs 1 core is being sanctioned under MGNREGS to develop the lakes across the State. Measures have been taken to develop new parks and renovate existing parks in the State, he added.

Later he inaugurated Bahubali Yatri Nivas at Kasaba. The building is built by the Tourism Department in association with Karnataka Housing Board, Bangalore, at a cost of Rs 107.70 lakhs.

Power production

Earlier, addressing the party workers’ conglomeration of four districts - Vijaya Sankalpa - here, he said the State has undergone revolutionary changes in the development process like never before. The State has achieved progress in 22 months what it could not achieve in the last 50 years.

The CM said the Government has elaborate plans to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of power in the next five years. The current disruptions in the power supply will be overcome by the first week of May. Plans have been chalked out to produce nearly 5,000 mega watt electricity in the coming days. Raichur thermal power plant will generate 650 mega watt electricity by first week of May,” he added.

III Finance Commission

Stating that strengthening the three-tier local governance is the need of the hour, he said the recommendations of the 3rd Finance Commission will be implemented soon after conducting Gram Panchayat polls. This will support the idea of administrative decentralisation. About 3,442 crore will be allocated for rural development. SHGs will be given additional financial support by helping them to market the goods produced by them.

Yeddyurappa flayed the Opposition for coming in the way of development works. Barren lands will be used for industrial purpose. Industrial projects should be taken up simultaneously along with supporting agriculture to achieve progress.  The party workers from Udupi, Kodagu, Chickamaglur and Dakshina Kannada took part in the convention.

Home Minister Dr V S Acharya, BJP National Secretary Ananth Kumar, Udupi-Chickmagalur MP D V Sadananda Gowda, BJP Spokesperson C T Ravi, MLAs Appacchuranjan , Laxminarayana, Lalaji R Mendon, Yogish Bhat, Raghupathy Bhat, Mallika Prasad and others were present.
