Karkala: D.C. Hemalatha Walks for Main Road Widening

Karkala, 18 March 2011: In order to convince the people on the widening of the Karkala city main road, Deputy Commissioner P. Hemalatha took “Padayathre” on Thursday. The padayathre which began in the afternoon at 02.00 pm from Ananthashayana went on until 06.30 pm reaching Salmara Mosque. During this padayathre she inspected the buildings and shops which were marked for vacating and convinced the occupants on vacating.
Eventhough it was Thursday, the day of fasting, she continued this padayathre just taking some water in between , without resting. Throughout the padayathre many public joined her and people especially women had gathered on both sides of the road to see this woman Deputy Commissioner, which even encouraged her enthusiasm.
With the huge gathering of people even the traffic was blocked often, which was also giving an indication on the urgent need of the widening of the main road. District Project Officer Krishna Hebboor, Thashildar Jagannatha Rao, City Corporation President Prathima Mohan, Vice President Prema and Chief Officer Gopalakrishna were present and gave necessary information to the District Commissioner P. Hemalatha.
After the padayathre D.C. spoke to the media and said that the padayathre has been successful. Most of the people have agreed to vacate 7 feet wide space. There is no question of extension of time for vacating. Some people have been saying that with the demolition of 7 feet the core building will have damage. But it has been told to them that in such cases compensation will be paid. But this will be applicable to those who will vacate before 25th March.

The contributions of P. Hemalatha D.C. of Udupi and also her husband Ponnuraj former D.C. of Udupi and D.K. is commendable. They have done selfless service to the community and to the developement. Our country is in need of such honest people. |
