Mangalore, 08 August 2011: The real Tulu culture can be witnessed in the months of Aashaada and Shravana, when people celebrate Aati in different places, opined AICC Secretary Vinay Kumar Sorake.
Speaking at the ‘Mariyalada Minadana,’ a special programme on Tulu culture during Aashaada and Shravaana months, organised by Narayanaguru Yuva Vedieke Mangalore Taluk Committee and Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, at ‘Ravindra Kala Mantapa’ of University College, on Sunday, he said that the Aashada and Shravana months are best suited to celebrate the Tulu culture, which also remind traditions.
On the occasion, Sorake unveiled ‘Hongiranada Hostilalli,’ a book written by Narayanaguru Yuva Vedike Director M S Kotyan. Giving a special lecture on ‘Aashada,’ Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy Member Bhaskara Rai Kukkuvalli said that, in olden days, Aashada was considered as a very ‘odd period’ where people had to struggle for a square meal.
Because of uncertain weather conditions, people were suffering from various diseases. “Nowadays, we don’t feel the heat of Aashada, as we have good medical facilities, but Aashada culture is very special,” he added.
Maharashtra Road Carriers Owner Praveen Kumar inaugurated the programme, while Narayanaguru Yuva Vedike Mangalore Taluk committee President Shivaraj Shivaraj presided over the function. Poet Muddu Moodubelle and many others were present.
