Oman Tuluver presents Yakshagana play, Manikanta Mahime

Muscat/Sultanate of Oman, 31 Oct 2016: Majan Events, in association with Oman Tuluver presented Yakshagana play in Kannada on mythological episode, Manikanta Mahime at Grand Hall of Al Falaj Hotel, Ruwi, here on Friday, October 28.

 

Oman Tuluver, a group of 5-enthusiastic members, striving to promote various events in art, culture and sports, bringing Tuluvers – Indian expats hailing from undivided Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka together. The group comprises Ramananda Shetty, Sudhir Shetty, Padmakar Mendon, Rajesh Shetty and Arun Poojary.

 

The programme commenced at 5.30pm. Ramanand Shetty, on behalf of Oman Tuluver, welcomed the gathering. After seeking the blessings of the deities, he began the proceedings. The guests, who are members of the various communities of Mangalore, were warmly welcomed with floral bouquets.

 

The guests inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp that was decorated with colorful flowers and areca-tree flower.

 

Ramanand Shetty highlighted the social welfare activities that are undertaken by their group.

 

The Vedic celebrant Lakshminarayana  Acharya performed the puja that set the stage ready and illuminated. The pandal of Yakshamitra Troupe - Dubai was placed on the stage. Satish Kumar Patla began the episode with his signature-style Bhagavatike, evoking thunderous applause. The entire Grand Hall echoed with his renditions and the joyful applause of the audience.

 

 

Yakshagana depicts the vivid bright hues of the costumes as per the character/role played, dialogues, rhythmic dance steps, colorful makeup with different head gears.

 

It was a total package dance – drama sequences of artistes, Bhagavathar, percussionists, pandal, classic representation of the essence of the theme in-between vocal support, music and the episodes linking one to another.

 

Splendid costumes with a display of vivid colors like red, orange, gold, bright yellow and jewelry embellished with stones to brighten.

 

Percussion Effect

 

The mridanga, taala and chende synchronized well and the turning effect on the melodious, exquisite renditions by Satish Shetty Patla. The ‘Dhiginas’ a notable feature in Yakshagana were also a part on the episode that the duel of steps, dance sequences between Bhasmasura and Mohini and the brief episodes in the life of Manikanta was presented.

 

Oman Tuluver took care of the guests and audience by serving a packet of snacks – Tulunadu traditional delicacies.

 

Oman tuluver are now gearing for their next event. They were overwhelmed with the mammoth magnanimous support and the presence at the Grand Hall.

 

Felicitation

 

Yakshagana lovers at the Grand Hall, Al Falaj Hotel, here will truly cherish the moments of not only witnessing and enjoying his Bhagavatike, but partaking with their presence during the felicitation of Satish Kumar Patla, the renowned Yakshagana Bhagavat maestro. He was felicitated by Oman Tuluver along with senior most Tuluver in Sultanate of Oman – Dr Shekar Salian, Akshay Kumar Marnad who donned the role of Mohini, Shekar Shettigar who donned the role of Basmasura, Prashant Kumar Vogenadu - chende artiste, Kishore Gatti who donned the role of Mahishi and makeup artist Gangadhar Shettigar.

A raffle draw was conducted and the lucky winners were presented with wonderful gifts. The lucky chits were drawn by some of the guests. A PowerPoint depicting the Yakshagana maestro Satish Shetty Patla was screened on the occasion. He had founded Patla Foundation to help the struggling Yakshagana artistes.
