Five interceptor boats launched at Malpe harbour

Udupi, 15 October 2010: Four more Coastal Security Police Stations will be opened at Ankola, Hejamadi, Gangolli and Honnavara soon, said Sanjay Veer Singh, IGP, Anti Terrorist Cell, Bangalore. CSP has five existing police stations in Mangalore, Malpe, Bhatkal, Kumta and Karwar. He was speaking after launching five new mechanised bulletproof boats of the Coastal Security Police, at Malpe harbour here on Thursday.
He said that of the five boats launched there, four were 12-ton capacity boats, each with 8 plus 12 seating capacity and one was of 5-ton capacity boat with 4 plus 8 seating capacity. With the help of the boats CSP would keep a 24X7 vigil of 0 to 5 nautical miles in the Arabian Sea. Five more bullet proof boats would be provided to the CSP by December.
Later speaking to press persons Sanjay Veer Singh said that internal security department had already trained 120 police personnel in combating terrorist attacks and additional 120 personnel would be trained annually in the years to come. “We have sufficient weapons. What we require is training for our personnel”, he said.
He also said that government has decided to provide commando training to a batch of 30 police personnel for the Quick Response Team in each of the districts. The Sagara Kavacha operation -3rd a joint operation by Coastal Security Police, Coast Guard and Navy would begin in the first week of November.
Retired personnel from Navy and Coast Guard would be appointed to the Coastal Security Police as technical staff on contract basis for five years, he replied. Superintendent of Police, CSP, MA Saudhaghar, Coast Guard Commandant PS Zha, AGM of GSL Goa BK Upadhyaya and others were present.
