A fulfilled day out by Mangalorean Community in Sharjah

Sharjah, 25 Jan 2014: Mangalorean Community of St.Michaels Church Sharjah under the banner of SMMKC successfully hosted Family Picnic on Friday, 24 January 2014 at Sharjah National Park.

 

A combination of pleasant cool weather, supportive, active participants and good organizational skills from the event organizers made it a day to remember.

 

This picnic was part of SMMKCs yearly calendar of events wherein the Mangalorean public is given an opportunity to come together and spend some quality time.

 

The proceedings of picnic started at 11 am with an introduction from Roshan Dsilva.  SMMKC President Lawrence Dsouza and Co-coordinator Cynthia Goveas welcomed Fr.Rodson, spiritual Director of Konkani Community of Sharjah.  Roshan welcomed all the participants and invited everyone to actively participate in the days games and activities.

 

Fr.Rodson, called everyone to be united and spend the quality time.  After the brief prayer by Fr.Rodson, Roshan took over the proceedings and the attendants were made to sing action songs and participated in synchronized clapping sessions.

 

Immediately the crowd was divided in four groups and thereafter every game was played group-wise so as to maintain sportsman spirit throughout the day.

 

In the morning session Roshan, Anil Prakash and Valerian Alva conducted several group games.  Dodge ball, Passing the coin, Balloon blasting, Passing the coin, Passing water filled baloons … etc were played which helped the groups to maintain healthy competition.

 

At 2.30 pm sumptuous Mangaloren buffet lunch was served and right after the lunch games for the children were played.  Children showed their talent in Lemon and the spoon, Crossing the bridge games and all the winners were awarded with gifts.

 

Then it was the time to welcome the lead actors and producers of New Tulu Film ‘Nirel’ which is going to be released on 14 February 2014.  All the lead actors and the producers were called upon and presented flower bouquet by SMMKC president Mr.Lawrence Dsouza.  Producer Mr.Shodhan Prasad spoke on the occasion and thanked Mangalorean Christian community for their active participation in the movie and also requested everyone’s support by watching the movie in theaters.

 

Valerian Alva conducted interesting Quiz session which revolved around Konkani culture, theatre, literature and religion.  After the quiz session, several other games were played and important among them were Ply Walk and Tug of War.

 

 

A special group acting session was arranged and every group showed their acting skills.  Group acting was judged by Nanu Marol, Deepak Dsilva and Lawrence Dsouza.

 

Housey game was also played and at the end Nanu Marol thanked all participants and sponsors on behalf of SMMKC.  Prize distribution was arranged at the end and all the winning teams were awarded with special gifts.  Entire day’s events were conducted by Roshan Dsilva, Anil Praksh and Valerian Alva.

 

Overall it was fun filled day-out which helped to spend some quality time outdoors along with family and friends.  SMMKC spared no efforts to make it a successful event as all the people left the venue with smiley and happy faces asking for more such events in the days to come.
