Udupi: NCC Annual Special Camp of Karnataka Naval Unit 5 Held at Pompeii College

Udupi, 5 Jan 2013: The annual special camp of NCC 5th Karnataka naval unit was held at the aegis of Pompeii College and Pompeii Pre-University College, Aikala, near here from December 23 to January 1.
A total of 522 cadets from 19 high schools of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, 66 cadets from NIT-K and 6 Colleges; altogether 582 cadets partaken in the annual special camp.
The training including yoga and drills were held with the objective of instilling discipline, physical and mental agility among the participants. The fire fighters of Mangalore fire station demonstrated rescue operations and offered tips on containing fire. The patrol police wing educated the participants on road safety. The dentists of A J Shetty Hospital and Research Center offered dental services. The officials of health department educated the participants on cleanliness and hygiene. The training on handling barrel guns was accorded at Kateel Pre-University College grounds.
The competitions on sports, cultural events and NCC were held on the same occasion.
Commander N Ramachandra, NCC officer Sub-Lieutenant Purushottam K V, First Officers L N Shastry and Sainat Shetty Kateel were the camp directors.
Ten NCC officers from different wings units including navy offered training to the participants.
Pompeii Group of education institutions correspondent Fr Paul Pinto in his valedictory address said that NCC instills discipline, patriotism, mental and physical agility to become future responsible citizens, said Fr Paul.
Speaking on the occasion, Pompeii College principal Dr John Clarence Miranda said that the students have greater responsibility to lead the nation effectively by 2025. NCC lays solid foundation in this regard, said Dr Miranda.
Pompeii Pre-University College principal Fr Jerome Pinto conveyed best wishes to the cadets.
Mundkoor Bhargav Jaycees president Venkatesh Pai, Kateel High School vice principal Suresh Bhat were the chief guests present.
NCC officer Sub-Lieutenant Purushottam K V presented the camp report.
First Officer L N Shastry welcomed the gathering. First Officer Sainat Shetty Kateel proposed vote of thanks.
