Moodubelle, 07 September 2010: As the children woke up to the last day of the nine day long novena they were greeted by the morning rain which continued till this report is being written at around 11 am. However, the rain failed to dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of the children as well as the accompanying adults. Carrying the flowers in their plastic or steel bowls and baskets or even in polythene bags children came to the church and after the Mass offered flowers to Blessed Virgin Mary in the portico of the church. Out of the nine days novena, this was the second time that the children had to assemble in the portico to offer flowers due to rain instead of at the Grotto.

It was a wonderful sight to see the young children carrying their school bags on their backs, umbrella in one hand and the rain drenched flowers in another hand with the rain drops on the flowers looking like pearls. Some of the children had beautiful assortment of flowers.

Meanwhile, as the Mass and novena ended and the children proceeded to their respective schools, their parents made their way to the shop of Mr. Pundalik to collect their choice of vegetables for tomorrow’s family feast. One of the ‘must’ item for the vegetable preparation, dento’ in a large bunch was kept aside. Similarly, other vegetables and ambades  were kept in line.

When this reporter went back to the church, he saw the sugar cane being lowered from the truck to be distributed after the festive mass tomorrow for the children as a reward for bringing flowers daily on ten days including the feast day to be offered to blessed Virgin Mary.

When asked about the arrangements for tomorrow’s feast if the rain continues, Fr. Joswey Fernandes said that, he hopes that tomorrow it will be a bright day. However, if the rain continues, the children will offer flowers in the portico of the church and the new paddy corn (kanshi) will be blessed at the altar.

Beautiful photos of flowers and vegetables. It is a nice atmosphere out there in the rainy season.
