Free Uniforms and Note-books distributed in Edmeru School

Moodubelle, 30 June 2010: The function to distribute free uniforms and note-books to the students of Shri Mahabhaleshwara Hindu Aided Higher Primary School, Edmeru was held on Tuesday, 29th June 2010 at 3 pm. Dr. H.B. Shetty presided over the function. The guests of honour included Mrs.Jacintha Aranha, President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Shivarama Salian, member of Belle GP, Udaya Shetty Moodubelle, Seetarama Shetty, Secretary of the School Administrative Committee, Mrs. Helen D’Souza, President of Jyothi Mahila Mandal, Benedict Martis, President of the Lions Club, Moodubelle, Mrs. Meera Lobo, President of Parents-Teachers Association St Lawrence PU College, Moodubelle, Bhaskara Shetty, senior teacher, Mrs. Girija Belanjale, retired teacher, Shilpa Nayak, Belanjale and Mrs. Khurshida Padu Alevooru, Cluster Resource Person.
Three students who had secured highest marks in the 7th standard examination (2009-10)-Divya Kumari, Prajna Nayak and Pooja Prabhu were felicitated by giving them cash prizes. Dr. H.B. Shetty and other guests on the dais distributed free uniforms and note-books to the students. Dr. H.B. Shetty honoured the newly elected President of the Belle Grama Panchayat-Mrs. Jacintha Aranha by offering her a flower bouquet. Similarly, Benedict Martis felicitated Shivarama Salian who was elected as the members of the belle Grama Panchayat.
Speaking on this occasion, Benedict Martis, President of the Lions Club, Moodubelle said that in spite of being aided school, the Edmeru School does not get enough grants from the government. Hence, the school can function effectively if generous persons donate to the school in terms of money or kind. He assured the school that he would try his best in getting some help from the Lions Club of Moodubelle.
In his Presidential address Dr. H.B. Shetty pointed out that running of Kannada medium schools is very difficult as the number of students is declining as more and more parents send their children to English medium schools. In spite of this problem, the head master of the school has been running the school in a disciplined manner. It is important that generous people should help such school to survive.
The free uniform to the students was provided by Shubhakara Shetty from Mumbai in memory of late Bommayya Shetty and Bhavani Shetty of Badagumane, Edmeru; note-books were donated by Shubhash Shetty, Kattingeri and tie and belt from Govinda Jogi, Contractor from Palli. Besides these desks were donated by K.A. Hebbar and Shalini Hebbar and a cash donation of Rs.10,000/- for the development of the school was made by Ramesh Geeta Shetty, Yarlapadi who is a hotelier at Pune.
The function was compeered by Udaya Kumar Yarlapadi. Head Master Vivekananda Shetty welcomed the guests and Mrs. Leelavathi, the assistant teacher proposed the vote of thanks.
