Moodubelle: 66th Independence Day celebrated in St. Lawrence Educational Institutions

Sixty sixth Independence day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the educational institutions of the Belle parish with great enthusiasm. St. Lawrence Degree College and Church Aided Higher Primary School jointly conducted the Independence Day function.
Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of the St. Lawrence Educational Institutions was the chief guest at the flag hoisting ceremony at 9.30 am. Following the singing of the ‘Vande Mataram’ by the school children, Dr. Eugene D’Souza, Principal of St. Lawrence College, welcomed the chief guest and the teachers and students. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes hoisted the Tricolour as the students rendered the National Anthem and the Flag Song.
Prizes were distributed by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes to the school children as well as College students who were successful in various games conducted earlier on the occasion of the Independence Day celebration. The girls Volleyball team from the Higher Primary section that had won the shield at the Taluka level was honoured by the Correspondent.
In his Independence Day message, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes said that we have to keep in mind the vision of the freedom fighters. He also said that India requires a second freedom struggle to free the people of the country from poverty, hunger, disease, ignorance, corruption and terrorism. He appealed the students to study well and imbibe the good values and become responsible citizens of the country.
Mrs. Lilly Lobo, Senior Teacher of Church Aided Higher Primary School compeered the programme and Mr. Sylvester Mathias, Headmaster of the Higher Primary School proposed the vote of thanks. The snacks and sweets as well as the prizes of the Independence Day function were sponsored by the Canara Bank, Moodubelle Branch.
Following the Independence Day celebration, the NSS Volunteers of St. Lawrence College conducted social service by cutting and uprooting the wild growth by the side of the Main Road in front of the school-college complex while some volunteers worked within the complex.
St. Lawrence Composite PU College
The Independence Day programme in St. Lawrence Composite PU College began at 9.30 am. The chief guest of the function was Ronald Sabi D’Souza and Dr. Diana D’Souza. The guests were led to the flag post by the band. After the welcome address by Mrs. Hilda Aranha, Senior Teacher of St. Lawrence High School Section, there was the Flag Hoisting ceremony by Ronald Sabi D’Souza which was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the flag song: “Zenda Ooncha Rahe Hamara”.
After the flag hoisting function, the guests were led to the PU College Hall for the stage programme. Two students- Edna Jacintha Martis of 10th Standard and Virendra of Second PU Science and Mrs. Shamala, teacher in Economics delivered speeches highlighting the importance of the Independence and the responsibility of the citizens of the country.
The chief guest, Ronald Sabi D’Souza and Dr. Dina D’Souza were honoured for their meritorious contribution to the development of the institution. The Principal, Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira introduced the couple to the audience.
In his address, Ronald Sabi thanked St. Lawrence Composite PU College for the honour bestowed on his and his wife Dr. Diana D’Souza. Mrs. Hilda Aranha was also felicitated on her birthday and Mr. Santosh Amin for the band.
Akshatha Bhat of Second PU Science compeered the programme and Bhavyashree of First PUC gave the cote of thanks. Competitions for the students were organized after the stage programme.
St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Moodubelle
The School students along with the band set and march past and honoured the chief guest Mrs.Roshini Saldanha representative of P.T.A. The chief guest hoisted the national flag and delivered the independence day message.
The winners of the different competitions were awarded with the prizes. The Principal Rev.Fr.Lancy Saldanha in his speech highlighted the importance of the Independence Day.
The students entertained the audience with the variety cultural programmes consisting of patriotic songs, dance and speeches.

It is a great feeling to see these photographs of Independence Day Celebrations by Colleg, Jr. College and High School. The Principal of the college Dr. Eugene has done a great job initiating various activities such as sports day, NSS etc. Also to see Sir Sabi his dear wife conducting the flag hoisting ceremony of PU College and it shows their commitment to the St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. Great sir, please keep up. All the best. Finally happy to see Roshni Saldhana after so many years and that too at the flag hoisting ceremony of High School. Well done Roshni, all the best. Finally, as one of the chief guest said: Yes, we need second freedom strugle to weed out Corruption, Poverty, hunger, ignorance etc. I hope the students will remember these values in their life time and implement. Very grand celebrations of St Lawrence Institutions. I am very glad to see Ronald Sabi and his beloved as chief guests at the Junior college Function. it is a great event and now we must try to keep up our Independence from the clutches of the bad economy. Let us pray for that. | |
