Shirva: Sports events strengthen societies – Gokuldas Nayak

Shirva, 10 Jul 2012: “Sports and games attract young and the old. They develop the spirit of togetherness; strengthen the ideals of cooperation. Sports events are some of the means to strengthen the societies.” These were the observations made by Udupi City Municipal Commissioner Shri Gokuldas Nayak. He was inaugurating the “Mud Sports” events organised by the Bantakallu Rajapura Saraswatha Youth Club as a part of their Sliver Jubilee celebrations on Sunday 8th July.
The venue was Bantakallu Sadambailu Govinda Wagle’s rice fields. These games were organised at Udupi District level exclusively for their community members. Shri Nayak further said that all communities should encourage and revive through these sports events the age old traditions and agricultural related activities handed down from generations to generations.
Bantakallu Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple Trustee Sri. Vishwanath Nayak, Sri Durga Women’s Association president and social worker Ms Geetha Wagle and Shirva Vijaya Bank staff member Sri S. P. Kamath were the chief guests.
The prize distribution ceremony was held in the afternoon. Udupi District Panchayath member and Bantakallu - Manipal R. S. B. Association president Sri Upendra Nayak distributed the prizes and congratulated the winners. Padubelle, Vijaya Home Industries proprietor, Sri Ramachandra Nayak, Karnataka Bank Bantakallu branch staff member Sri Vittala Wagle, Bantakallu Sridevala temple administrative board president and Belle village panchayath former president Sri Shashidhara Wagle and Sri Pravin Prabhu, Kukkehalli were the chief guests.
Youth Club president Sri K. R. Patkar welcomed the gathering. Sri Devadas Patkar, teacher, compeered. Sri Umesh Prabhu Palame announced the winners. Secretary Sri Umesh Patkar proposed the vote of thanks. Sri Veerendra Patkar led the prayers.

People in India love sport. Its values " fitness, fair play, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence " are universal. At its best, it brings people together, no matter what. Sport is increasingly recognized as an important tool in helping the participants achieve their objectives, in particular the rural sports in India. "Mud Sports" is very cost-efficient tool to help us create a better atmosphere in the rural areas especially in D.K. district. Sport has a crucial role to play to improve the lives of rural people around the world. Sport builds bridges between individuals and across communities, providing competitive spirit among the rural people, young and old alike. Congratulations!!!
