Eight youths from DK languish in Jeddha Jail since 10 years on charges of illegal phone calls

Mangalore, 27 Jun 2012: It is nearly ten years since eight youth from Dakshina Kannada district have been languishing in the Jeddha jail in Saudi Arabia on charges of illegal phone calls. The Saudi Telephone Company has filed cases against these young men in four categories.
Under File No.1 the accused are: Hussain Ahmed Kudrolli, Yusuf Muhammad Shafi and Muhammad Asshraf. They are required to pay two million Saudi Rials as fine. The accused in File No. 2 are: Nasir Muhammad, Firoz Ahmed and Riyaz Ahmed who are required to pay three million Saudi Rials. Muhammad Ayub Kannur’s name appears in the File No. 3 who is required to pay 80,000 Saaudi Rials and in File No. 4 the name of Muhammad Sharif is included who is required to pay one Million Saudi Rials.
Such a huge amount has been imposed on these eight youths as fine. As the families of these accused are not in a position to pay such huge amounts, these youth are still languishing in the Jeddha Jail. Parents of some of these youths have had mental breakdown and are undergoing treatment.
Some of the relatives of these youths had approached S.M. Krishna, Minister in Charge of Foreign Affairs and the Chief Minister of Karnataka, DV Sadananda Gowda. Well wishers of the eight youths have also submitted petitions to Indian Consulates at Jeddha, Riyadh and Mecca. However, nothing has happened in favour of the youths.
Finding no response to the appeals and representations from the government agencies, the family members and relatives of the eight youths have approached the journalists of Mangalore to highlight the plight of these eight youths languishing in the Jeddha Jail.
