Sharjah: Ace Spikers and Bunts Dubai are Lourdes Kanajar Volleyball and Throw ball Champions

Sharjah, 17 Feb 2012: Ace Spikers won the prestigious Lourdes Kanajar cup Volleyball tournament hosted by Lourdes Kanajar Association Emirates defeating Chilly Willy in a nail biting final here today, while Bunts Dubai emerged winners in Throw ball tournament when they defeated Konkans Dubai in a well fought finals.

 

Lourdes Kanajar Association Emirates (LKAE) showcased their organizing abilities and experience of organizing 8 consecutive Volleyball and Throw ball tournaments today with well organized tournament at Wanderers Club Grounds.   Windy day throughout couldn’t lessen the spirits of players and sports enthusiasts on a day where 12 men volleyball teams, 9 women throw ball teams and 9 mixed throw ball teams contested for the coveted Lourdes Kanajar Volley ball and Throw ball Trophy.

 

The day started at 8-30 am with serving free breakfast to all by Najmat Bangalore restaurant.  Gilbert Aranha took charge of the inauguration function.  All teams assembled in front of the stage.  Frank lobo of Galaxy Electromechanical Works LLC, Satish Shetty of SAM Electromechanical, Walter Nandalike, Editor in Chief of Daijiworld, Dayan D’Souza, Ronald Saby and Aloysius Dsouza were present on the stage.

 

LKAE President Vijay Barboza welcomed the gathering and briefed about the organization and the charity work carried out by them.   Guests were honored with flower bouquets.  Founder member and Ex President of LKAE Stan D’Souza briefed about the tournament and called all the participants to play with true spirit of sportsmanship.  Wilfred Mendonca conducted the oath taking ceremony.  National anthems of UAE and India were played by Steve D’Souza.

 

Pigeons were released to mark the official opening of the tournament.  Youngsters of LKAE took a round of the ground with the Torch and the torch was lit by the organizers.  Throw ball and volley ball matches officially inaugurated by the Chief Guests.  All the league matches and semifinals of mixed throw ball were conducted in the morning session.

 

Sumptuous traditional hot buffet lunch was served by Najmat Bangalore restaurant while afternoon high tea lifted the spirits of gathered. Also the snacks counters were serving the delicious food throughout the day.

Afternoon session started with a nerve wrecking final of mixed throw ball between Bunts Dubai and Konkans Dubai and Bunts Dubai were able to keep their cool under pressure and won the finals.  In ladies throw ball semifinals Bunts Dubai defeated Canarites and Konkans Dubai defeated Manglore Konkans in keenly contested matches.  In Men’s Volleyball Semis, Chilly Willy defeated Seaman’s Tigers and Ace Spikers defeated Chilly Willy Nakre.

 

In the finals Bunts Dubai defeated Konkans Dubai in Ladies Throw ball and Ace Spikers defeated Chilly Willy in four sets.
Prior to the prize distribution ceremony an auction was called for the remaining coupons for the lucky draw.  Sports Secretary Alwyn D’Souza proposed vote of thanks.

 

Frank lobo of Galaxy Electromechanical Works LLC, Vanita Menezes, representative of Globe Link West Star Shipping LLC, Founder member of LKAE, Aloysius D’Souza, Thomas Sequeira, President of LKAE Vijay Barboza, Secretary Nishal Lobo, Treasurer Joy D’Souza, Sports Secretary Alwyn D’Souza, Thomas Saldanha, Stan D’Souza were present on the stage during the prize distribution ceremony and distributed the trophies.

 

The entire event was compered by well known personalities Uttam Menezes and Gilbert Aranha and Vinod Shetty chipped in with his magnificent kannada commentary of Volleyball matches.

The efforts of the President and organizing committee are really appreciable in successfully conducting the tournament for 8th consecutive year.
