Kuwait: Catholic Community Hosts Diocesan Emissaries

Kuwait, 27 November 2011: As Mangalore Diocese is gearing up to celebrate its Post-Centenary Silver Jubilee, the Catholic community of Kuwait met with the Emissaries of the Diocese, Vicar General Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu and Parish Priest of Milagres Church Mangalore Fr Walter D’Mello at ICSK, Amman st. branch premises, Salmiya at 6.30 pm. The meeting was hosted by largest and premier mangalorean catholic association “Kuwait Canara Welfare Association” (KCWA) and prominent community leader Mr. Archie Menezes.
Rudy D’Souza led the prayer and gave an introduction of the meeting. Archie Menezes officially welcomed Msgr. Denis Moras, Fr. Walter D’Mello and the gathering. President of KCWA Stephen Machado led the priests on stage and were greeted with flower bouquets.
Fr. Walter D’Mello gave a brief introduction on the importance of the meeting and projects being undertaken to commemorate the jubilee celebration. A short power point presentation, prepared by Canara Communications Center, highlighting the growth & achievements of the Diocese of Mangalore was shown to all.
Msgr. Moras in his address explained the various projects taken up by the diocese to mark the jubilee celebrations and requested the support & cooperation of all catholics of the diocese to make it a grand success. Following projects have been scheduled for the jubilee year;
- Building of 160 houses of 290 sq. ft. at a cost of Rs. 2 lakh each for the poor of 15 denaries.
- Providing free Education to the poor up to PUC.
- Building hostels for students who aspire for higher education at a cost of Rs. 60,00,000/-
- Building a shrine/Chapel at Bajpe in memory of the visit of Blessed Pope John Paul II at a cost of Rs. 50,00,000/-
- A Marian museum at Rosario Cathedral to display the history of our Diocese at a cost of Rs. 50,00,000/-
- A Quiz on the history of the diocese to be conducted in Konkani weekly Raknno during the jubilee year.
- Bringing out a souvenir to mark the post centenary silver jubilee.
At the question-and-answer session that followed, some of the people gathered queried on the projects being undertaken, which were promptly answered by the Vicar General. A coordination committee was formed to follow-up and mediate between the community members and the jubilee committee under the leadership of Felix Saldanha. The other members of the committee are Archie Menezes, Ida D’Silva, John Edward Castelino, Stephen Machado, Clifford D’Souza, Arun Noronha and Presidents of all mangalorean catholic associations in Kuwait. Light refreshments were served to all. Stephen Machado proposed the vote of thanks.
