Doha: Rebimbus Family Continue Wilfy’s Musical Legacy

Doha, 24 October 2011: Mangalore Cultural Association (MCA), a prominent Konkani organization in Qatar, organized ‘Wilfy Nite - a tribute’ on Friday, 21st October 2011 in Doha Cinema. The show featured the Rebimbus family, late popular Konkani singer-composer Wilfy Rebimbus’ wife Meena and their daughter Veena and son Vishwas. Others performed with them are veteran singer Ivan Sequeira, Babita, Charleen, veteran comedian Dolla, a troupe of dancers and talented local singers and performers including Preema Pinto and Rupert Pinto of GVOM.
The program began with the MCA anthem by MCA members. Sanjiv Kohli, Dy. Chief of Missions Indian Embassy was the Chief Guest of the program. Other guests and dignitaries present on the dias were Meena Rebimbus, Felix Lobo MCA Patron, Harry Lobo – President of MCA, Wilfred Fernandes, Jerry Ointo and Jason Quadros – Vice President of MCA.
Meena Rebimbus launched the MCA’s upgraded website www.mcaqatar.com on this occasion. Sanjiv Kohli in his address appreciated the efforts by MCA in preserving the native culture with such programs. Meena Rebimbus was felicitated by Sanjiv Kohli as MCA advisory council member Joe D’Souza read the citation.
In the musical fiesta which followed, Rebimbus family proved at this Doha show that they are committed to carry on the legend’s great legacy and provide the Konkani music lovers with total entertainment as Wilfy did for almost half a century continuously. The nite was truly a tribute to late Wilfy Rebimbus as the troupe led by Meena, Veena and Vishwas kept the audience glued to their seats with some of the most popular and foot-tapping numbers.
All the other singers and performers also entertained the audiences with their singing and dance, who were ably supported by the musicians. There were skits and also comedy by veteran comedian Adophus Cutinho (Dolla) who along with his team kept the laughter running among the audiences. The program was compeered by Lesly Rego. Jason Quadros – Vice President MCA proposed vote of thanks.
